We do "Jazz in June" up in Lincoln, too, but Norman's sounds better. I will check out Carolyn.
Not into country, but I like the ones who cross over into blues or folk/roots or bluegrass, etc. Like Shawn Colvin or Alison Kraus.
And...
RIP Jon Lord, keyboardist and composer for Deep Purple. One of my favorite bands back in the 70s - Hush, Lazy, My Woman from Tokyo, Highway Star, and that one about an arsonist in Montreux. |

| Wow, what a voice. Just listened to her (Carolyn Wonderland) singing the Rick Derringer song, "Still Alive and Well." And she plays a mean guitar. The female Stevie Ray V? |

I think I have the honour of being the first member of this site to have seen The Beatles perform. (unless that sneaky Jeremy saw them first, but I don't think he was old enough). I saw them in Paris long before they were ever across the Atlantic.
A friend of mine from Winnipeg came to visit me in Paris. He was and is a big pop/rock music fan. It was the summer of '63. I asked him if he liked The Beatles. He said, "Who are The Beatles?"  |

No, The Beatles were done and dusted shortly after I made it into double figures - still a little young for concerts. However, one of my earliest memories is of me as a four or five year old singing "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," while accompnaying muself on a toy guitar to a room full of relatives and family friends. I wince at how teeth rottingly cute the scene must have been.
My gigging time coincided with the advent of punk. |

| If ever you are on our West Coast, plan your trip around Ashland, OR, where they have been producing Shakespeare since 1935. I won't bore you with how great this and that were, except to say That Taming of the Shrew was a screaming laugh throughout. It was a Coney Island setting, with a hip quintet on the second floor balcony. Absolutely packed with sight gags. The many high school kids were grooved in the entire way. Blessings upon them, for they were ignorant of the Burton/Taylor drunken atrocity of '67. |

I like it too.
I love Katy Perry's new single, "Roar." She's always a lot of fun, and it's about as perfect a statement of pop confection as you could hope for (at least until Kelly Clarkson does a new song.) |
