Anyone bother to watch the reboot of The Munsters, titled Mockingbird Lane? Looks like NBC is dumping this very expensive show after filming the pilot, as it aired on Friday night as a single movie "special."
Too bad because the script is sharp and funny, and the premise is great. The premise being that these monsters must fight against their natural desires to be human. And they don't do so well. It's an intriguing idea.
It had its problems. Clearly what the producers really wanted to do was The Addams Family. The characters are made to look in many ways like the 90's movie version, and Eddie is even a boyscout, just as Pugsley was in both a Charles Addams gag cartoon and the second episode of the 60's t.v. series. Also, while the dark take is appreciated, it really went too far near the end. For any other series, no problem. For a show that's an offspring of The Munsters, and thus was likely to be watched by a lot of kids placed in front of the set by their folks, kinda inappropriate.
Still, so tremendously original in so many ways. Too bad we're unlikely to find out in what direction the show might have evolved. And it probably won't even get a DVD release, since it was only an hour, not two (thus functioning like a movie). But as memory or collectable memento, I can fairly guarantee this item is going to have an ongoing cult following. |

| Curses, I wanted to see that--Eddie Izzard was on Craig Ferguson's show the other night, and I'll watch anything he's in. But I didn't make a note of the time, so it slipped my mind entirely. I hope they repeat it. |

Drat. Got hooked on Grimm recently and was sort of spooked out after so didn't keep it on for ML.
NBC probably run it again around Hween. |

I started watching Mockingbird Lane and lasted for 15 minutes. Didn't care for it and switched to another show.
Dennis Quaid on Letterman last night. He's was very good and gave some very interesting things about Las Vegas in those days. He spent some time with the sheriff that he portrays in the series and it was fascinating. |

Shoulda watched. I love Dennis Quaid and am particularly annoyed that he's currently relegated to supporting the likes of Gerard Butler, one of the most uncharismatic, untalented "leading men" of recent memory, in the generically titled Playing for Keeps. What is it? A rom-com? No. A sports movie. Will watch for Quaid and will try to avoid looking at Butler.
Strangely enough, the only time I've ever liked Butler was in the Ralph Fiennes Coriolanus. Weird that someone who is unwatchable in Hollywood pap can survive in Shakespeare. |

Billy, do you watch Vegas. It's very good and so is Quaid (and all the cast).
On Letterman, he mentioned that Las Vegas was a lot better when the mob had it then since the corporations got it. Any Las Vegas fan say the same thing, myself included. The mob knew how to run a casino. Gambling was there source, everything else was cheap or free. The corporations try to squeeze as much out of the visitors as possible. Ah, the good old days. |

| Huh. Well, the NBC affiliate in Omaha ran Grimm at 8 pm, then Mock. Ln. at 9 pm. I would mos def not confuse the two, given that I've seen several eps of Grimm and, having lived in Portland, really enjoyed the location shots, spotting familiar places. Silas Weir Mitchell has a great supporting role on Grimm - provides much comic relief from time to time. |

| The bacchanalia in Lost Girl which is supposed to be so sexy looks like one of the most boring parties I've every attended. It reminds me of the "sexy" dances on the original Star Trek that put me to sleep. I've come across belly dances at sf conventions that also made me want to take a nap. |

I thought that green woman was pretty hot.
There was a belly dancer here in town, part of a group of Bosnian refugees, who looked a bit like Stana Katic ("Kate" on "Castle") and I'm fairly certain her gyrations and undulations would not induce a nap. But, yeah, it requires some expertise and personal charisma, which many SF conventioneers might lack. |

I'm a big fan of Monroe (played by Silas Weir Mitchell, who is a direct descendant of the famed 19th century physician of that name) and so glad to see him and Rosalee together. The whole show is very trippy, especially with Nick's GF now enduring an LSD-ish bad trip in her house, a side effect of the anti-love potion.
As a former Portlander, I enjoy the locations, though AFAIK there is not actually a dive called Junkyard Dogs in Gresham. With or without Wesen customers. I love the concept of making scary face (I forget the jargon) in order to be admitted. |

| The actress who plays Rosalee had a baby last September, which is why she was, uh, phoning in her part in the fall episodes. It avoided the awkward question of what happens when you cross a blutbad with a fuchsbau. Whatever it is, it would have lots of pointy teeth and a canine disposition. |
