Timothy Spall. Great actor, too. |

Schiavelli had a great face. As did Harry Dean Stanton, Jack Elam, and Victor Jory. Sadly, all gone. Every one was a pleasure to watch. |

Don't tell that to Harry Dean Stanton, it might kill him. |

Loved Schiavelli in The X-Files episode with the traveling carnival. Terrific scene where he visits Agent Scully -- she answers the door in a bathrobe, and he's also wearing a bathrobe. His gaze drops to her bosom, and she tucks the robe primly together. Her gaze drops to his chest, which contains his tiny mutant twin, embedded in his chest, and he precisely mirrors her gesture. |

I ran across this on Gawker -
Beloved cult writer/director Joss Whedon has made a secret movie! No one knew he made it except the people he made it with, but now everyone knows about it! It is called Much Ado About Nothing and it is based on a little-known play by obscure British dramatist "William Shakespeare." (It's a modern version, so don't get your hey nonny nonnys in a bunch, Branagh purists.) The movie, which was filmed over 12 days in Santa Monica, stars lots of Whedon regulars, including the wonderful Amy Acker as Beatrice, Alexis Denisof as Benedick, as well as Nathan Fillion, Fran Kranz, and Clark Gregg. The movie will be done with post-production in the spring and will then try to hit the festival scene. So there you have it! No supernatural ghoulies, no magic superheroes. Just regular old California romance with Joss Whedon's repertory company. Sounds fun!
Here's the original story with additional details in The Hollywood Reporter.
It only qualifies as Alternate Universe because of the Whedon factor, unless of course you count contemporizing Shakespeare as alternate. |

Very intriguing! "Much Ado About Nothing" is one of the few Shakespeares I've seen more than once (okay, because Alan Bates was Benedick--I saw it four times in three days). I definitely want to see Whedon's version. |

I've seen Much Ado many more times than any other Shakespeare play, partly because it's my favorite WS comedy, partly because it attracts big stars to play Benedick and Beatrice. This sounds intriguing. |

I've seen the Emma/Ken version of MAAN and that's it. Will look for the Bates one, didn't know it existed.
Is it true that Anne Hathaway did Shakespeare in the Park? |

Bart: Alan Bates was Benedick on stage in London. Felicity Kendal was Beatrice. And I really, really wish it had been filmed! |

I saw that, too, and posted it over at Melba (in the context of talk about China's infrastructure building boom). Bodiddley suggested it as a scheme to attract tourists out to the desert regions. I thought it might be a facility where aliens can land and buy cheap Chinese manufactured goods. |
