Rachel Maddow continues to show the right stuff. She busts a guest on air for a conflict of interest.

An immortal film moment is when Wendy Craig slaps Dirk Bogarde across the face. POW! How the poor bastard must have felt, being revealed so exquisitely rudely.

I was watching that and it is good that Maddow did the right thing. But it seemed more as if Maddow busted herself for allowing the tainted discussion to appear on her show than that she busted the guest who did the tainting.

I like Maddow a lot and try to catch her show when I can. If she hadn't decided to dive into the deep end of "advocacy" journalism, I think she would've made a much better host of Meet the Press than David Gregory.

R.I.P Eartha Kitt...her Catwoman was the best of all.

I think she would have been a better host, too -- but she had less seniority, Air America, and her sexual orientation working against her. I don't think it's just "advocacy journalism."

Type casting.

Mo, I don't think her sexual orientation would be of any concern.

Gary...I'm writing about Rachel, not Eartha Kitt.

And yes, I DO happen to think Rachel's sexual orientation is a concern because if it weren't, a certain white-haired newscaster (whose sexuality is the stuff of persistent rumors) probably wouldn't have attained superstar status in the world of comm'l. broadcasting.
Of course, I don't know for sure...just my $.02.

I beg to differ on that -- much as I loved Kitt for other things, Julie Newmar was the ultimate Catwoman.

Newmar's Catwoman could have taken Batman physically even without her lame henchmen; her downfall was that she loved the big lug of a good guy and could never bring herself to seal the deal. Newmar's Catwoman was also complex in that she was a bad girl who maybe wanted to turn good for Batman, but just couldn't bring herself to do so.

Kitts' Catwoman had a Snidely Whiplash quality about her in that there was no romantic conflict; she just made plans, and then -- curses, foiled again. Perhaps that aspect was purely a product of its time -- I wouldn't really know, I was about 5 at the time -- but Kitt's one-dimensional portrayal of Catwoman came in a distant second to Newmar's. (Strangely enough, Lee Meriwether's Catwoman [the original] came in miles behind Kitt's.)

Just my opinion, of course.

Perhaps it was Eartha Kitt's legendary purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that I remember. I was a kid when the series was on, and she was the one with whom I was most familiar. Just her exotic looks and her voice made her memorable, to me.

Can't find it in reruns, either - I'd love to see my kids enjoying the camp the way I did!

Two words: Julie. Fucking. Newmar.

Is that more than two words? O.K.!

I know that. And unless I don't get what you mean, Meet The Press isn't on CNN.

Huh?? Where did I say that "Meet the Press" is a CNN program? I've been watching "Meet the Press" on NBC Sunday mornings since I was a kid -- before there even was a CNN.

I was speaking of commercial broadcasting _in general_ - where a talking head = a talking head = a talking head, no matter which station they're on.

My post has been revised. I've cut any mention of CNN to eliminate confusion.

"Meet the Press" = NBC, NBC, NBC.

Roger Ebert links to Marilyn's review of Sita Sings the Blues on his website. Sounds like a movie I could really enjoy if I ever get a chance to see it. Apparently there's an issue with the rights to the songs.

She played opposite Nat King Cole's W.C. Handy in St. Louis Blues. I remember her best from TV variety shows. "C'est Ci Bonne", of course, was her signature song. Man, she was hot.
