That's blasphemy! That's a story people should know about.....I read the book and it fills in alot of gaps......but if you're not a reader, then seek out the movie.
I don't care who doesn't like Angels & Demons. I was only interested because I read the book and find the subject interesting.. |

It's much more style than substance.
And not a style I like.
The conflicts which finally arrive an hour into the 75 minute film are fairly minor and the film never gets under the surface of the Sasha Grey character for them to register.
I didn't understand why the guys wanted the fitness trainer to come on the Vegas trip. But I didn't really care either, especially since I hated that home video-ish plane ride. Thematically it helped make the fairly lame parallel between the trainer and his pro girlfriend. |

I also saw the 60 Minutes report on the reiationship, and I didn't need to see the fictionized version. Plus, I didn't want to spend money on a movie I wasn't even sure I wanted to rent on DVD.

I guess I don't understand why you find it necessary to mock this film, Billy....or why you refer to it as a fictionalized account.
For those who don't know....Jamie Foxx plays a former Juilliard student who has a break down and ends up on the streets of LA. Mentally ill as he is he still loves music and keeps connected by playing a 2 string violin under a statue of Beethoven in a park near the LA Times building. Robert Downey, Jr. plays the reporter who sees the homeless musician first as a good story and then as time passes as an important friend. Jamie's character makes strides, the reading public pitch in, the mayor recognizes a wakeup call.
A beautiful scene is at the Disney Hall.....Frank Gehry's building with Jamie and Robert watching the symphony rehearse. I've been to the building and it is a wonder. I would love to see a performance there.
This is an inspiring story. How often do regular folks get involved with those who have severe mental illness when they aren't relatives?
Another director has focused on this subject. Bill Rose directed a beautifl film called This Dust of Words about a brilliant poet and writer who was sheltered by a northern California town even though she refused medical attention and housing. His earlier film The Loss of Nameless Things is available on dvd. |
