I don’t think KK was too beautiful for this role; they did a very good job of making her quite plain looking.

Though I have argued against the people who said she was too beautiful for the role, I certainly don't think she looks "plain." She's far from gorgeous, however, and falls into the "quirky and interesting" look.

You are right. Plain is not right with respect to KK. I can't say that I think she is beautiful, but she is arresting.

Julie Christie was a force of nature in Dr. Zhivago. I don't remember her in anything else except Hamlet. Even allowing for the passage of forty-one years, I couldn't reconcile the two images. For one thing, in the latter film her eyes were brown, while in Zhivago they were a most magnificent blue.

I'm glad people are finally catching Pride & Prejudice - Keira was my Blanche vote for best actress and P&P (and Munich) was my favorite film for that year

The Merchant/Ivory/Jhabwala production of Heat and Dust, set in India, featured Julie Christie in a memorable role, albeit with some nudity.

FACETS VIDEO PROUDLY PRESENTS...

Vera

Juan, an older man of Mayan ancestry, falls victim to a mining accident and embarks on a hallucinatory journey in a Yucatan underground cave world. He is guided along by Vera, an attenuated blue spirit. Through an entirely unique series of visual transformations, Juan is catapulted at once into the realm of Mayan mysticism and visions of the future. Overflowing with a pantheon of religious imagery through exquisite cinematography and seamlessly integrated computer animation, this visionary film opens up a world of narrative forms for generations of filmmakers to come. In Mayan and Spanish with English subtitles.

Kate...........Glad you loved Pride and Prejudice and had the same reactions about the nutty Mrs. B. praise on the special features.

I am now reading Emma and The Jane Austen Book Club. The latter isn't great but at the end of the book there are quotes from all variety of famous people on what they think of Jane Austen.

For Example:

"I am a Jane Austenite. She is my favourite author!" E.M. Forster

"Every time I read Pride and Prejudice I want to dig her up and hit her over the skull with her own shin-bone" Mark Twain

Same question. Did you direct Vera, star in it, arrange for the DVD production, or just like it a whole lot?

Marilyn was a huge booster of the movie - I think she knows the director - and she was the one who brought it to Facets' attention (2-3 years back).
