This movie is gorgeous to look at and I loved the score enough to give it one of my Blanche nominations in that category, but the story never grabbed me. At one point there is a reference to a character who has boarded "a long train trip, headed toward a drowsy future." That's about how I felt thirty minutes into this two-hour movie. Great scenery out the window, though. |

| Several actors have tried to make the transition from porn to legit. movies in the U.S. I can think of Tracy Lords (moderately successful) and John Holmes (a failure). |

| Also Ginger Lynn Allen, who seems to have gone from adult movies to mainstream and back again. |

| Traci Lords is a pretty terrific lady, actually. I don't know much about her acting, but you always hope good things for good people. I hope she has a nice career. |

| Weren't the actresses in that French movie, Baisse-moi, porn stars? I don't know much about their careers to know whether the transition worked. |

Watched the first half of The Staircase this evening. Riveting it's been called and riveting it certainly is.
Netflix hasn't sent me the second half yet, so I'll have to wait until after the weekend to see it. It will be a long weekend; I can't wait to see the rest of it.
Must add, however, that it doesn't quite match my three noms for doc. I also have Enron in the house, and will watch that this weekend. |

Offhand, I can't think of anybody but Traci Lords who did hardcore and then made legit Hollywood movies (and the movies she's been in have never even flirted with mainstream success, John Waters' movies being as close as she got). Is there anyone who's crossed over from porn to "stardom?"
Stallone comes to mind, but I don't know if Party at Kitty and Studs' was hardcore. |

It isn't. You'll see much more explicit movies on Cinemax if you tune in at the right time. A lot of them starring Traci Lords... |

| Kevin Costner's first film role was also in a piece of risible soft porn. |

| There have been a few Hong Kong porn stars who have gone on to either successful singing or acting careers. But I think they were mostly involved in softcore porn. I'm willing to research that ... now that Shannon has outed me. (actually, that was interesting info about IMDB. I don't remember such an option. Sounds rather AOL-ish if you ask me. Will have to look at what other options I'm missing). |

I sympathize, billy. I wouldn't want to be left hanging in the middle of this doc. By all means, DON'T do anything stupid like Google for the actual outcome. This movie is best why you know NOTHING at all about the subjects.
BTW, I agree that I probably wouldn't nom. it for Best. Doc., ...but I doubt that I'll be able to finish watching all the possibilities before the Blanche noms. are due this Sun.
I'm determined to see THE CONFORMIST which opens in Sta. Fe today. |

Chuck Connors (of "Rifleman" fame) was rumored to have starred in a gay porn movie.
I remember this from a '70's documentary I saw at the Lavender Cinema 12.
Marilyn Monroe from her very early (1940's) days is another. There's the collector's footage on view at the Erotic Museum on Hollywood Blvd. |

No, she's referring to Sizzle Beach U.S.A., a Troma release. It's not what I'd call porn of any kind, including soft core, but it sure does stink up the room. |

Would never Google, but I did take the plunge and rented Disc 2 from my local video store. I couldn't wait for netflix this time. So I will see the outcome this weekend. |
