Nah, it was probably unintentional.

But, shannon and Melody--I disagree 100 percent that the characters in Junebug are stereotypes. They may be based on stereotypical characteristics, but the development of the characters is anything but boilerplate.

That's the thing. To me it seemed that none of the characters are developed AT ALL beyond their stereotypical characteristics. Certainly the mother and the brother aren't. What else is there to them? Can you add something to my descriptions? I will admit that Amy Adams' character becomes sorta interesting during the hospital scene, but by that point it's too late in the film for me to care.

Amy Adams was definitely a supporting character, as was everyone in the film except Madeleine, who was the leading character by dint of being the "outsider" who is looking (with us) at the alien characters.

Perhaps this is what Melody and I object to, that the film makes Southerners look like, to use your own words, "alien characters." Yeah, we're some strange motherfuckers. Now excuse me while I go fuck my sister.

Puh-leeze. Can anyone say over-defensive?

Well, over-defensive for comic effect, perhaps.

Shannon, LOL!!

Yambu, to answer your question, no church people that I know of -- and they's a-plenty in my family -- break into spontaneous prayer in the middle of speaking.

What would have been more realistic at the church potluck: a gaggle of older women whispering and pointing in the corner. In a small town where your family has a lot of history, newcomers to your family are not welcomed with open arms. Acceptance sometimes takes years. In that singular instance, the filmmaker got mom's character right.

I have a Southern Mother, one that used to smoke like a chimney, and obviously one that had a son move far away. To belittle Celia Weston's performance and call it stereotypical is borderline absurdity.

I was planning to nominate her.......she has stayed in my memory as a well fleshed out character. And the music in Look at Me was worth the viewing. I love French movies.........Is it their fearlessness at portraying ugly emotions? Just finished Kings and Queen..........And would recommend it to anyone who likes to see a good variety of fleshed-out characters portraying a full gamet of emotions.

I just started watching Head-On. I like to watch dvds in segments. Last night was just to get a feel for the atmosphere, the style, the characters. First impression: alot of urgency here. I am shocked that Sibil was a porn star. She seems so young and fresh.

I'm finding this line, "Semen is loaded with anti-oxidants", is working better these days.

Ah. That explains why they aren't listed on IMDb.
