Why did the fact that it's about a real thumbsucker turn you off? Can't handle the truth? Hit too close to home? Come on, full disclosure.

What I said a week ago: "This is a masterfully edited docu, taking even a casual viewer with no real knowledge of a very complicated scam, from yawn to outrage in two hours."

Saw Thumbsucker and Mysterious Skin tonight. Quite a double bill. Thumbsucker is the essence of an independent film. Small in scope, well done, and rather forgettable. Mysterious Skin, on the other hand, is memorable to the max. It's one of the best and yet one of the most unpleasant films I've ever been gripped by. I knew very little about it going in and I was glad. It took me by surprise. Extremely disturbing, sometimes almost unwatchably graphic, and yet a must for film buffs. Gregg Araki is quite a talent.

Had to check to see what he played. Very moving performance, very well directed sequence, leading you to believe one thing and fooling you, but very honestly. Drago was excellent; is he a friend of yours?

Marc or anyone,

Do you know when Bertolucci's THE CONFORMIST will be coming out on DVD? It's playing at the Guild in Albuquerque (the art house) for just 3 days and I doubt that I'll be able to drive down to see it.

billy, Drago is not a friend. I just love his performance in MYSTERIOUS SKIN.
Its such a brave, knowing and tender perofrmance. He generally gets cast as bad guys in horror and action flicks. This role is quite a departure for Drago.

His looks, which are not inherently evil but are arguably sinister, were part of what made the sequence such a legitimately twisty one.
