We've always counted each movie separately. A couple of years ago Sean Penn competed against himself for Best Actor.

okay, I just started counting votes and already I have a question....Shirley McClaine was nominated for two different movies. Do I count her total votes, or her votes per movie?

This is sure to come up for Geo. Clooney...and maybe even Kevin (Robin Hood) Costner, too.

So Jake (from BROKEBACK) might compete against Jake (from JARHEAD)?

yeah, that's how I remembered it too, but I just wanted to throw it out there to the group.

shannon - I changed your vote from Adams to McDormand as per your later post.

Talk about yer basic cognitive dissonance...

I'm planning on nominating, but I have to think about these categories (plus I've been at work all weekend).

I may be mistaken about Sean Penn. That may have happened on Milk Plus.

This year we could have duplicates with Steven Spielberg in the director forum, and could have had one with Catherine Keener in supporting actress.

Apropos of supporting v. lead nominations, the ultimate test was Fargo. Macy had (on paper and on screen) a larger role than McDormand, yet was there any doubt that she was the lead and he a very large, deserving, and Oscar-robbed supporting actor role?

mo,

Glad to see Gong Li on your list. She was narrowly edged out of mine by Brenda Blethyn, the best Mrs. Bennett I've ever seen.

BTW, re: Norman Lloyd's screen time -

Does anyone remember how many minutes Dame Judi had in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE? I remember it was very little and she did get a nomination/win??

I don't remember exactly, but I think it was less than ten minutes.
