Something I noticed in the doc was that Joan Baez did something that I've caught myself doing on occassion, mixing up some detail of a story that I think I remember accurately. I had read about the story she related about the hotel manager not wanting to give Dylan a room a long time ago. When I read it she said that he sat down and wrote Ballad of A Thin Man (that's the one with Mr. Jones, isn't it?) as an immediate result of the manager's obnoxious behavior. In No Direction Home she says that he sat down and wrote When Our Ship Comes In. Both songs make the same point.
If it's one of the two, it would When Our Ship Comes In. Ballad of a Thin Man was written about someone in connection with the recording studio. |

I watched Medium last night (I taped it), and was very disappointed at it's lack of guts. Of course the Priest turns out to be right and God is in his heaven working in mysterious ways. The first part was pretty amusing when you have people, including Medium's husband saying things like, "He's a priest for crying out loud. They don't do things like that." Of course everyone knows now, what they are capable of doing. But not this priest who decides that his vow of keeping a confession confidential is more important than the life of an innocent girl. And Arquette is wrong when she has doubts that left up to God everything will turn out OK.
The producers just went down the path and chickened out at the last minute. Disappointing for such a good show. |

Continuing with my taping because of the Dylan doc, I watched Boston Legal last night. It is so gleefully absurd and funny that I can't help forgiving it when it goes completely over-board as it did with the mute complainant who gives her testimony by playing a cello. You can't help but feel that all the principals are having a blast with the material. |

Anybody watching Reunion on FOX?
They've shown only three episodes and now it's going on a brief hiatus while FOX airs the baseball playoffs. The acting is mediocre and the make-up/hair designers have a helluva challenge on their hands as they try to make six young actors (3 guys, 3 gals) age 20 years over the course of 20 episodes at the rate of one year per episode. But the flashback/timeline gimmick roped me in and now I gotta keep watching to see how the mystery ends. |

Gary: I enjoyed that episode of Boston Legal, too. It looks to me like Rhona Mitra is being eased out of the show. I notice she wasn't listed as one of the main characters but after the main credits with Monica Potter. |

Did anyone watch Frontiline tonight. It was a look at the impact of the OJ Simpson case. It is one of the best discussions of the case and the racial divide in this country I have seen. In light of racism in the aftermath of Katrina it is quite timely. If it is replayed in your area I highly recommend it even though it can be hard to watch at times. We all need to recognize that race is still a huge unexamined issue in this country. |

Boston Legal, I love it. I knew she was going to whack him with the frying pan as soon as I saw her first holding it. Way before the fact but who cares. It was wonderful.
Does anyone, besides me, find the weekly summation of the programme with Shatner and Spader discussing the weeks activities while sitting on the balcony smoking cigars, reminiscent of another TV show's summation?
I'd be very surprised if the producers of the show weren't conscious of the nod to this long gone series. |

Boston Legal's finale is somewhat reminiscent of George Burns' little monologues in his old fifties sitcom. Maybe because he was puffing a cigar as well.
Loved that line of Spader's when he told Shatner, "I just saw Tara laughing with another man." And Shatner's anxious "Are you sure they weren't just kissing?" Reminded me of a guy who made me laugh, years ago...it really is more important than anything else.
And as a postscript--nice to see Rupert Everett playing straight! |

Yup, carrobin, George Burns was who I was thinking of.

That's what they say, but there were many women that I made laugh and still wouldn't come across.
Are you laughing? Wanna get naked? |

I'm laughing, but believe me, you wouldn't want to see me naked! |

Mmm--now I'm wondering--should I be insulted?
Tuesday was always a pretty dull night for TV, but now I can't get any work done because of NCIS (okay, because of David McCallum), Commander in Chief (which is opposite at least two other shows I'd also like to watch), and Boston Legal (ditto--it's won me away from Law & Order). The only thing that really bothers me about Commander in Chief is the shock of seeing Geena Davis in the oval office--I mean, that's Martin Sheen's room! |

No, no, Gary, that second sentence comes after the first one. |

I really regret that they put all the good shows on at the same time, to make me decide what to tape for watching later (since I turn onto a pumpkin at a ridiculously early hour) and what I'll have to catch in reruns, while there are whole nights with little or nothing on. I particularly dislike it when they schedule shows in the same genre opposite each other. |

Hear, hear! This is the worst year for that, that I can remember. |
