Happy Birthday, daffy!!!
Was glad to see Afleet Alex win, that was my pick for the Derby. PLUS, I'm not going to feel compelled to be @ the Belmont Stakes this year with no chance of a Triple Crown Winner. |

I thought about you ehle, when he won. A popular and courageous win. |

Me too Wade. And I had friends here from Kentucky who really study the horses. We all picked the top three. But what a yelp we let out when Alex stumbled.
Another Great Race.
Daffy,
Happy Birthday!!! |

So far, it's not showing up, although Samuel French wrote back to say it's probably in the public domain (yep) and to try a library. (I've also tried the university library by me, but haven't heard back.) So the next place is the New York Public Library...
(This is going better than the treasure hunt for Brazilian films, which ground to a halt when the Ministry of Culture "temporarily" shut down their online store >%^{ and the Brazilian Consulate replied to my email with Gilberto Gil's email address (= black hole) and not much else.)
Around 2002 or so, I took a Portuguese class at UNM. We NEVER EVEN GOT our textbooks because of delays resulting from U.S. Customs & 9/11 implications.
The whole class was taught with xerox handouts. |

I think they should have moved the class to Portugal, then. %^} |

Yeah, some really good (sounding) films were awarded this year. I think the one I'm most excited about is Free Zone, an Israeli film with Natalie Portman and Cannes Best Actress, Hanna Laszlo. |

Actually, this was Brazilian Portuguese. I'm sure everyone would have been happy to have been studying in Brazil! |

I picked Scrappy T. That last turn was scary. |

I wouldn't have expected it, but I'm most excited about that Tommy Lee Jones movie. That and the Jim Jarmusch. Glad to see Woody Allen may have finally ended his string of mediocres, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up to high. |

I'm ecstatic about the Cannes results! I love, love, love the Dardennes! And we've already seen Me and You and Everybody We Know (for which I owe a review to this site) and fully support the awards it and Miranda July received. It's good to see Amos Gitai's name on the list, too. Roger Ebert said this was the strongest Cannes festival in years, and I know I see why. |

I read this script about 2 years ago when July submitted it to Showtime to be an original movie on cable. I was literally blown away by it and nearly cried just reading it. I'm delighted she got it made, and that it did so well at Sundance and Cannes. I can't wait to see it. If it's only a third as good as the script (and I hear it's at least half as good), then I'll adore it. |
