An awards show would not be an awards show without an InLareviewer.

Tsk. Tsk.

A fellow thespian who was raised in a trailer park.
No Oscars. No Millions. No Publicist.

Correctible Typos and Other Omission Emissions:

Ms. Okonedo.

When I said the clips of La Blanchett from Aviator were kinda scary, I meant that in the good way.

On the fashion front, I left out Tharlize Cheron, whose ice-blue tulle looked like a well-configured Tournament of Roses entry. Mrs. Antonio Banderas represented the opposite end of glitzy light blue overkill, and her derriere sign post suggested the odd bidet attachment from a Liberace garage sale.

But Edna "E" Mode -- "Luck favors the prepared" -- made a dandy animated presentrix, darling.

As opposed to the decidedly unanimated Robin Williams, who should have just dared the damn song.

lshap, marj, marantz: Merci. Much more gratifying to recap in Blancheland

ehle: Another trailer-park baby here, without millions or even a publicist.

But a thespian no more.

Because I'm a dancer!

(exits cavortily past the graves of Oscars past, Belushi-like]

One of the best moments, darling. Just wonder how many viewers knew whom she was homaging?

IndeEdith, you're aHeada me. Or who voiced her?

More Effluvium, Post-Blanche and That, um, OTHER Film Society

It occurs that by referring to Chris Rock as Le Rock, people in France might think I mean The Rock. Except then it would be La Roche. That could confuse fans of The Roches. Or residents of New Rochelle. This might further disturb members of the Rochelle Hudson Fan Club, many of whom are also members of the Rock Hudson Fan Club. That brings me back to animation.

Ann-Margrock.

"I-don't-wannabeyourfool-no-more" (hand-chop, handchophandchop, hand-chop)

A great role for the Second Ex-Mrs. Cruise.

More missed fashion plates:

Kirsten Dunst looked mighty purty in her black lace, and so did Ziyi Zhang, though I kept expecting her to launch an aria, or sump'n.

But Mr. Foxx's daughter, and East Clintwood's mother, now there was some Genuine Beautifulness.

If only Gael G. Bernal had been there...

Letterman introduced himself as "a girl from a trailer park with a dream" tonight.
snort

Zhang Ziyi's overall look and her hair in particular was a mistake. She or her stylist (can you imagine having a stylist) doesn't really understand where a beauty lays. She is at her best as a girl/woman, but with barely concealed inner steel. The iron fist in the velvet glove incarnate.

It's ALWAYS about the hair.

I rather liked ZZ's gown, but it really did invoke visions of Patrice Munsel, which made me nervous.

Beyoncé never looked lovelier, even when her hair suggested a hard roll from the Four Seasons breakfast tray, during her endurance of the Lloyd Webbed bilge. Breathtaking. She sings, too.

Certainly, there were more eye-brow raisers than one originally noted (Counting Crows, "Accidentally in Love," HELLo)

But where was the shock of an Ex-Mrs. Alec Baldwin, or Bjørk-as-stork scale, to say nothing of Edy Williams?

Just one spectacularly Cher-like outland, or something on the order of, say, Geena Davis's later self-coutoured experiments in terror, that's what one missed.

Bland against grand. Got kind of implosive. It was, after all, hyped for edge, all night.

Edge of Night. God, I miss Lois Kibbee.

Oddly, being The Original Upsetmonger, I was curiously all right with the lack of same in the various awardings. The whole thing has always been commercial fodder, I know, but some folks who really merited acknowleging received some acknowleging, and that's a good thing, for them, anyway.

The absence of the commentating stars from a broadcast booth, like Glenn Close or John Lithgow, remains no loss at all.

But I did sorta miss the Jacks Valenti and Nicholson, though I'm unsure why/how/where/when.

Bill Conti was, as always, a yeoman and fairly kind with the scary orchestral playoffs. Magnificent Seven made me giggle.

I guess this is the Blanchian answer to the interminable (and out here, ubiquitous) rehashes that are just getting rolling today. "Oscar stars without their make-up! Next ET!"

lol.

hmmm

Perhaps more of a stiletto in a silk cham song or a poisonous petal, delicate and deadly, nightshade or foxglove, a china berry.

Nice to have you back, Inla! You're brilliant, as always. See, there is life after Mrs. Wallingford.

Chilly -- Yeah, definitely need to corral the winners into one byte-sized poster. Will do, but not for another few days. More deadlines and, I hope, a C.O.D. cheque as my much-needed reward.

Cool deal, Mr. LShap. Hope your cheque comes soon. I know the hounding/waiting methods all too well for some of my clients.

Maybe she's taking Gene Siskel's advice?

I'm an inlareviewer groupie and worship the ground he walks on, but he'll never know.

That Oscar show smelled all the way to Shanghai.

- Chris Rock wasn't even close to funny the whole night.
And I usually like him.
- Beyonce is incredibly boring. And seemed a little Stepford to me.
- The only good musical number I heard was when the guy who wrote the song for The Motorcycle Diaries won his award and sang quickly a little from his song, The Other Side of the River.
- It's hard to believe that Counting Crows has any fans. The song they sang sounded like an out-take from an early 90's Elvis Costello album.
- The only good moment was Jamie Foxx's acceptance speech (and his daughter)

But don;t listen to me, I always hate these things.
They just seem so weird and such a strange artifact of our culture.
It never feels like an event intended for humans to me.
