So I heard! I definitely want to see this one. Michael Moore can be irritating, but he can also be uppity just when that is needed.

Gary,

I change the size on mine to 14. I think 18 is too large -- seems like I'm shouting.

Fahrenheit 9/11 winning the top prize at Cannes shows not only how much the world hates Bush, but also that they will not miss an opportunity to show it.

Fahrenheit 911 shows not only how much the world loves Michael Moore, but also that they will not miss an opportunity to show it.

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)
Confused

Ghulam,

It cracks me up, actually. The French hate Bush. Oh, that's really going to stick in our craws, isn't it?

Rich's article was more interesting than he usually is, but it doesn't make me take the movie much more seriously EXCEPT (big except) the miltary abuses that must be looked into.

Oh well. At least Rich acknowledges Moore is a polemicist, not a journalist. Of course, I say the same thing about Frank Rich.

I just wanted to say thanks again to everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes. It was icing on a wonderful day. I went out for a terrific dinner with my number one gal: my big sister. We laughed and joked and stuffed our faces and I came home happy.

sioux, I hope you had fun, too.

Yeah, but it's not as if the Cannes Film Festival is populated entirely and exclusively by the French. It's arguably the most prestigious film festival in the world with people from all over the globe attending, so it's a little disingenuous to imply Moore got a standing ovation from just a bunch of crabby French fops, rather than an international community of artists and businessmen.

I share you concern about the prison abuse. I am also concerned, however, that the other aspects of the "war on terror" do not concern you, such as:

1. The intrusiveness of the Patriot Act.
2. The lack of evidence supprting the WMD accusation.
3. The fact that a dozen Saudis, including members of the bin Laden family, were escorted out of the country by airplane, while every other flight on the continent was grounded, without ever being questioned by authorities.
4. The refusal of the administration to offer even an estimation of the war's costs, and then repeatedly ask for more funding that they attempt to hide from the public, and then question the patriotism of any Congressmen who questions this modus operandi.
5. Exactly what George Bush was doing during the morning of 9-11.
6. The well-documented accusation that someone in the Bush camp, most likely Karl Rove, committed treason by revealing the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame in retaliation for her husband questioning the Bush war plans.
7. The refusal of the administration to define the term "terrorist," which leaves open the possibility that anyone who demonstrates against the government may be classified as a terrorist.
8. The Bush administration's violation of the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments in the cases of Mrrs. Hamdi & Padilla.
9. America's violation of the both Geneva Convention and our own Constitution by unlawfully imprisoning people @ Guantanamo Bay without charging them with a crime, allowing them access to legal representation, limiting their access to/from the International Red Cross.
10. The bizarrely suspiciosu details surrounding the murder of Nick Berg

I could go on and on.
