Dan Aquilante must be one of Rupert Murdochs illegitimate children, how else could he have gotten the job....or as the saying goes boys and girls,
he never lost his head, even while giving it
as I think back to some of Dan's reviews I have perused in the past, Dan is not even worthy enough to take Lester Bangs cap of his pen......

Has anyone seen Dreyer's [/i]The Passion of Joan of Arc? I recently purchased it from amazon and immediately fell in love with the music that was recorded in 1985 for the film. It's absolutely beautiful and fits the movie to a t, especially if you like early music. Both the story of Joan of Arc and the music are blended so beautifully. I bought the music called Visions of Light which is the music for the film. Definitely a must.  |

Recently heard a CD with "Word" magazine here in the UK (www.wordmagazine.co.uk). Among the tracks were old favourites, such as Elvis Costello & Trashcan Sinatras (late 80s NME readers alert!). Two other tracks, however, stood out, both acts I wasn't really familiar with.
"Nobody's Sleeping" by Anne McCue, an Australian singer-songwriter, & "Twilight" by Elliot Smith. I know other posters are aware of Smith's work, so I openly plead ignorance of his work. 
Both tracks hooked me. Anne McCue reminds me of a young Bonnie Raitt, while Elliot Smith's track was as haunting & poignant as you could get. It has an upbeat feel, yet is pervaded by melancholia, disturbingly prophetic, perhaps, given his subsequent death. |

I always enjoy Dreyer's The Passion Of Joan of Arc. Agreed the music by Richard Einhorn is inspired. Did you know that Dreyer did not want music to accompany his film and even prevented his actors working along with music live as was popular back then with silent actors.
How about Falconetti as Joan, what an emotive face huh?

I too am not all that familiar with Elliot Smith I listen occasionally, but I recently have become very fond of a tune of his called Son Of Sam "melancholia" indeed, at it's best. |

| Filling up my iPod for the exhaustively, borderline insane road trip for X-mas and am listening to "The Real Ramona". I can't believe how incredibly great this album is. My pick for Best Album of the 90s. |

Do tell... Not heard of this album. It may be something I want in my iPod as well (up to 12gb in mine so far in the less than the 2 weeks I've had it)

This was the one album that I must have missed 13 years ago. I found Belly before Throwing Muses and in the process, had only heard some of their more recent albums sans Tanya Donelley.
Thanks for the link and it's one I'll have to check out here soon.

| is--as the video suggests--is that really snoop dogg singing on the new single "Let's Get Blown"? I always thought he had a real singing voice apparent in his flow, but this really showcases it. does he do this on other songs on his new album too? |
