Would have joined the Earth Day march here, but looked like there wasn't any place to park near the starting point.

RIP Jonathan Demme. That one hurts; I've been waiting for my friend to return "Stop Making Sense" so I can watch it again.

Forgotten best movie performances of the year 2016 would have to include Ethan Hawke as Chet Baker in "Born to Be Blue," Gillian Jacobs in "Don't Think Twice," and Krisha Fairchild in "Krisha." Soon-to-be-overlooked turns are Julianne Moore in "Maggie's Plan," Sally Field in "Hello, My Name is Doris," and Ralph Fiennes in "A Bigger Splash." Shame (on somebody or other)!

Caught up with Maggie's Plan...had some funny moments and Moore was pretty good, you're right. And those Bavarian style pickles are amazing. ]

How was the film?
I've seen the Dvd kicking around, but I'm only mildly interested in Chet Baker and saw the documentary about him 15 years ago or so ago and figured that was enough.

Was anyone watching the hearings yesterday? I caught most of it, though I had to do some deadline work. Fascinating stuff. And from what I read in the rabid right-wing emails today, it's all "old news" that cleared Trump entirely of any Russian influence. What would they be saying if it were Obama in the White House with this going on?

I can see Holly Hunter as Sally Yates in the TV movie. Or maybe Jodie Foster.

Gromit,

When I was living in Paris years ago, I had seen Chet Baker a few times when it was late at night. I talked with him and one time when his wife was with him. (I think it was his wife.) He was a very nice guy. He did have times when he used drugs but he never had that when I wasn't there.

I loved the film, and particularly Hawke's performance, arguably his career peak.

How do these three connect? I tend to agree, though I thought Foster was brilliant in The Silence of the Lambs.

Rumor, not fact, is that Sean Hannity will be gone from FNC by Friday.

I am working with the Nature Conservancy to help preserve a few angry corrupt bigoted white guys. I fear that, between Faux News and the federal grand juries called in 2 districts to start Russiagate indictments, their numbers may be starting an irreversible decline.

Seems to me that those ACB white guys are all too able to take care of themselves, unlike the less ferocious wolves and tigers.

Yes. I was attempting some ironic humor. And -correction possible- Claude Taylor says it's now 3 grand juries.

It would probably be most humane to round them up and release them into the wild--that's what they seem to yearn for, anyway.
