I agree. |

The closest I can figure is the sociological notion that there are shame-based cultures, and praise-based cultures, and Marc think he's accomplishing something by shaming us, thinking it will lead to our talking more about current film.
That approach never works on me. Though to be honest, if he praised us everytime we posted on a current release, that wouldn't alter my behavior, either.
To quote Pee-Wee Herman, "I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel." |

just saw Peace, Love and Misunderstanding - really an acting showcase. The whole ensemble is terrific and this a warm, funny film, a "feelgood" movie in the very best sense. Needless to say, Jane Fonda is perfectly cast as an old hippie grandmother. And Catherine Keener....sigh. A pleasant surprise was an excellent debut performance from the boy who played Keener's son, a budding filmmaker whose hero is Werner Herzog. I think the speedbumps he encounters in his attempt to do a documentary will be enjoyed by most everyone here. |

| I don't think Marc was criticizing, I think he was making a joke. I thought it was funny. |

Comeon you guys/gals. Page after page of posts on the Sound Of Music (including a post of my own) in "Current Film." Imagine being a first-time visitor to this site, you'd think you had entered a time warp.
And for Christ's sake, if you haven't figured out my sense of humor by now, I guess it ain't working.
It would be nice to discuss more new movies.
I saw Beasts Of The Southern Wild this evening and it was a deeply soulful experience. A unique film with a lot of heart. I expect we'll see an Oscar nom for Quvenzhané Wallis. She's amazing. |

Saw a trailer for Beasts Of and it looked fascinating, a lost-parent drama with global warming and prehistoric critters. Copain and I looked at each other, as in, this could be great or awful.
Ted and Take this Waltz, both opening, both look fun. The Ted plot sounds a little bit like The Beaver.
See PL&M, if you haven't yet. |

Take This Waltz looks terrific. Ted looks unwatchable. IMO.
Meanwhile, the title Beasts of the Southern Wild sounds like a nature doc. Whether this will be good for box office, disastrous, or just misleading is anyone's guess. In any case, it's not my idea of a great title. |

| Please understand that part of my core values is to take the word "unwatchable," applied to a movie, as a personal challenge. However, the price of first-run movies is starting to erode that core value. |

Well, almost picked up Into The Abyss, but both copies in the shop were lightly scratched so I passed.
I'll get to a Current Film sooner or later.
But went with a 2 disc Joris Ivens set instead.
Looks good .... |

| Can't tell you how many times the buds and I were sipping some cool ones, swapping tales of almost-purchased lightly scratched discs. |

I agree with you here.
Honestly, who gives a fuck if a newcomer sees we've been talking about The Sound of Music in Current Film? If he or she has a stick up their ass and thinks "Well, they are not analyzing the McCluenesque influence of media and the didactic presentation of friendship values in Ted, I have no time for their drivel," I don't think we lost much.
We are who we are and we attract a certainly kind of smart, contentious, pet-loving, digressive personality. I got no problem with who fits in and who doesn't. |
