De Niro was okay, just not up to his best.

If you want to know just how silly a spell-maniac I am:

It's Robert De Niro (with a space after the "De") and Danny DeVito (no space).

I think this is turning into a 2011 recap forum.

But I'll continue to pretend it has some connection to The Blanches -- so what are the main contenders for Best Pic?

The Artist, The Descendants, A Separation, Limitless ...
Anything else?

Maybe I'll try Limitless.
I think I saw that dvd turn up last month(?)

I guess my top ten 2011 US films would be something like:

1. Young Adult
2. The Tree of Life
3. The Adjustment Bureau
4. Another Earth
5. The Descendants
----
6. Midnight in Paris
7. Rango
8. The Help
9. Hugo
10. The Beaver

Kind of a significant drop between the first and the next 5. I feel like my list is just missing a genuine Top 5. All that would make a pretty solid 6 - 15.

My top ten English-language films of 2011:

(in alphabetical order)

Another Happy Day
Bridesmaids
The Conspirator
The Descendants
Drive
Jane Eyre
Margin Call
Moneyball
Take Shelter
War Horse

I recommend all of these movies without reservation. A few of them--The Conspirator, Take Shelter, Margin Call, Another Happy Day--have been largely unappreciated. An eleventh film, Rampart, is too unpleasant to make the cut, but Woody Harrelson's performance and the high level of excellence of the overall film make it a must for any cinephile.

Any of these movies are far better and worthy of your time than Extremely Loud, The Iron Lady, The Artist, or several other Oscar nominees. IMO.

No, "WWHHIFTC". No A.

The Correction Maniacs competition is in full swing! At this point, it's too close to call.

Actually, in retrospect it is "WWGHIFTC".

I knew that. I was just testing you.

Cool

Just so you know who you're dealing with here, I'm the Kinbotian guy who spent at least a decade believing the Steve Miller song went,

"Really love your features,
want to shake your tree..."

One day someone pointed out that "peaches" made more sense than "features" and I saw the light (a Todd Rundgren song).

Ah yes. Reminds me of the Pearl Jam song with the chorus "We'll be smoking grass today". Of which only the last word turned out to be correct.

Best movies of 2011:

A Separation

Really, that's about it. None of the other movies I have seen are in the ballpark, though I admit to quite a few movies as yet unwatched by me.
