Film editing was the biggest upset, and Makeup--passing over Harry Potter in favor of whoever did Streep's old-age makeup--was out to lunch. |

I agree that Harry Potter should have won for makeup. |

If no one takes the bull by the balls and gets a calendar and counters set, billy will be naming this year's winners by fiat next year too. |

I'm in the process of gathering and editing award show placards. And having fun doing it, too. Makes the mundane crap I do during the day seem less bothersome. |

Relayed Deaction Dept.:
Alas, the run-up to Monday's LADCC awards (will post some links to the BroadwayWorld, ArtsBeatLA and LAT listings in Theaterville), and household/career outlet retrenchment (a nightmare) prohibited a timely review of the Aclademy whoop-up, mea apologea, and it's way moot now. Must however note, with all due respect, that here in Industry Central, the Best Actress award was hands-down The Biggest Upset, Ms. Davis having been given high-end favorite odds even before her SAG win put her in Front-Runner status. (Sidebar: The rumors of SASSY bribery giving Mrs. Gummer the win are completely unfounded. She was rooting for Viola, and where Meryl leads, SASSY follows. The Blogosphere was agog at the outcome, and one's own reaction can be imagined -- let's just say I've finally stopped sounding like Elaine Stritch's lovechild by Screamin' Jay Hawkins). To local techies and AMPAS members, the Film Editing awards were not that big of an upset. Oscars have an off-again, on-again history of repeat winners in the craft categories, and since the Dragon Tattoo cutters had the emotional/visceral content of that film riding on their contribution in ways that not even Thelma S's sensational Hugo chopping did, it was a surprise, yes, but not an upset. Cinematography going to Hugo over Tree of Life (or, for that matter, the un-nominated Melancholia or Midnight in Paris) came next closest to a "WHAA...?!?", and since the producers of the show lame-headedly opened the night with the lensers award, its impact dissipated pretty soon. As, indeed, did the the show itself, and there it is.
Moving to more pertinent matters, is it safe to presume that once again the Blanches aren't happening? If so, am sorely disappointed, but then, it will afford more time to devote to the newly discovered calling of Freedom Fighter for the Anti-Fascist Film Forum Underground, tee-hee. |

inla--Read again. The Blanches are happening, just at a more deliberate and late pace. |

Is the pace still deliberate? When is the voting and tabulating and so on? |

I guess I have to click on an archive to find past Blanches (having arrived here in the post-Blanche era).
If inertia rules, what about at least having a show of hands for best picture? |
