According to Wikipedia, Neil Jordan was set to direct The Graveyard Book in 2010, but I haven't seen any signs that it's happening. It's not mentioned on his page, but is on the page about the book.
Noomi Rapace is going to be the lead in Ridley Scott's Prometheus opposite Charlize Theron. Apparently this was originally going to be a prequel to Alien, but has moved in a different direction, though still related. I'm confused. |

Er, because he was a sickly twerp as a kid who developed a love of movies because that's all his anemic self could handle. His fondess/fascination with the tough guys in the neighborhood, as seen in many of his films, was the flipside of that. |

Quote: You can see Scorsese is going for Harry Potter and The Golden Compass and maybe even Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with the child-catcher patrolman. But there's no whimsy and no wonder. It's its own automaton.
3rd Eye has just reached maximum polarization over a film. Kind of refreshing.
Noomi and Charlize? Sigh. BTW, anyone seen Charlize's film out this week, Young Adult?

But the kid was insufferable. |

I've seen a lot of insufferable kids in movies, but Hugo wasn't one of them. |

WORD.
I wanted, so badly, to love the new Sherlock film. Didn't. Couldn't.
Totally agree re Rapace playing Salander in the American film.
She did look a little like Cher... |

I liked the first Sherlock Holmes with Downey, so I'm sad to hear that the second one wasn't very good. Damn. |

A lot of people like the second movie better, so maybe you should take a chance on it. |

I reviewed Young Adult a couple of weeks ago. Sigh. Nobody cares about me.
It's a very good film with a knockout performance by Theron. |

I like Charlize Theron so I'll probably see Young Adult. Sometimes I like dark comedies, and she even made Aeon Flux reasonably bearable. |

Thanks Syd. Though most often a follow-up movie that a lot of people liked better than the first turns out not to be, But I'll see it anyway. Hellboy was a good example. The second Hellboy was OK but the original was way better.
I like Aeon Flux a lot. |

billyweeds, I just read your review and agree with parts of it (but, personally, I'd wait for rental given a redo). Theron was excellent - if they ever make Absolutely Fabulous into an American film, she was born to play Patsy Stone - and Oswalt very good, much better than I expected. However, at the end of the film I felt kind of let down - and it's not that I expected her to get the boyfriend back or anything like that.
I'd be interested to hear what the unforgettable bits were in your estimation; I don't mean to sound snotty, I just can't find a smooth or polite way to ask the direct question. But it's just that nothing really good in the film stuck with me. In contrast, I can't forget my two WTF moments with the film (a cassette player in a Mini Cooper, and Theron's magically being transported from the BF's driveway to a bar after she drives him home - an "Oh, fuck, how do I get out of here?" [because her car was nowhere in sight]would have made me quite happy and forgiving of the seeming teleport).
Like I said, Theron and Oswalt were great; guess I'm just not a Diablo Cody fan. |

grace--The unforgettable moments in YA were all courtesy of the Theron performance. Her kiss-off to the ladies at the end of their first encounter, her liaison (say no more) with Oswalt near the end, her melt-down in the driveway, her final scene. And more. She's dynamite. |

Don't know how I missed your YA appraisal, BW. Thnx for directing me to it. |
