| Liked Lars, found Half-Nelson halfway decent. But Gosling gives a great performance in The Believer. Shouldn't be missed (Weedman! that means YOU). If I see Drive, it will be for Gosling. |

I will definitely see The Believer. You should see Drive for Gosling and Albert Brooks and Oscar Isaac and Bryan Cranston and Carey Mulligan and Ron Perlman and the amazing photography and editing and music and...
Just see it. |

Some budget their movies more on topic/genre, others more on the possibility of gemlike performances. Moneyball sort of has me on the fence, because I like a gemlike performance but have trouble getting into baseball movies. That said, if it has Syd and Weed so polarized, curiosity trumps.
And I'd add Gyllenhaal, in Source Code, to the best actor list for 2011.
Trying to get all my goslings in a row, so will look for CSL. I'm surprised Weed didn't like Lars ATRG, but I'm guessing there is a fine line between charming and sappy. |

Gromit, I'd heartily recommend that you pick "Drive" out of the three you mentioned. It's a significant moment in the art of the motion picture, visually stunning and original, with an amazing ensemble. "Contagion" is good, but not great, being at an emotional distance from all its characters that gives it the feel of a documentary. You'll learn something, but it's not a significant moment in the art of the motion picture. As for TTOL, well, from what you post around here, I sense that you will feel your time was wasted.
I can't remember ghost-writing for bartist, but otherwise I would swear I'd written this post. Every syllable is brilliant--IOW I agree. |

| When I heard story elements like "slacker couple filled with self-doubts" and "narrating cat," it made me a bit wary, so I missed it when it was in town. Then again, I enjoyed a film with a slacker and a narrating cowboy, so maybe I should cross species lines and rent it when it comes along. |

| Other Ryan Gosling films not mentioned but showing every bit his astonishing range are: Fracture (his cockiness challenged by Anthony Hopkins), All Good Things (his depressive persona infecting Kirsten Dunst), Blue Valentine (slap-happiness doesn't inspire Michelle Williams for long), and Murder by Numbers (hard-ass/bad-ass companion to the sensitive Michael Pitt). He should never be overlooked (I haven't seen Drive yet........like Gromit I'm anti-violence.) |
