"Debaser" was played. It was right before "The Holiday Song" I need to check my source for this playlist, but rest assured... it was played and enjoyed by all 1200 people at the show.

I couldn't wait until the new Elliott Smith album actually came out, I have been listening to a radio promo copy.

it's incredible. I'd heard all of these songs already from live solo acoustic rendition performances, & so am familiar with the tunes, but was excited to hear what a studio genius of Smith's caliber would build up out of those melodies, and this does not disappoint. of course it's hard to say how much the folks who put it all together after his mysterious untimely death actually did vs. what he left behind...

the electric guitar playing is unparallelled vs anything else Smith has ever done. it's full on george harrison white album type stuff. Shooting Star, King's Crossing, A Distorted Reality Is Now A Necessity To Be Free, Strung Out Again, Passing Feeling, Coast To Coast... these tracks are testing the fidelity of my stereo speakers. monsterous guitar work. I only wish he had lived long enough to work with my other contemporary guitar heros, john frusciante & vince gallo.

there are also handful of similarly great "classic elliott" songs in acoustic-type form, making this the widest range of styles ever cobbled together on an ES record...

I plan to get it on vinyl when it coems out later this month.

I can't wait to here the new Elliott Smith. I've heard two tracks, "A Distorted Reality..." and "Passing Feeling" and they're both excellent. I'm excited.

In other news: The Arcade Fire are as good as hype suggests. Anybody who liked those last two Sunny Day Real Estate records, buy it. Now.

New Interpol, better than old Interpol. Of course, I hated old Interpol, so those countless legions of old Interpol fans will be disappointed. Not so relentlessly gloomy this go-'round, the album is actually fun to listen to. It doesn't seem like an album so much as it seems like singles compilation. Which isn't a complaint considering I'm counting six perfect A-sides.

American Idiot has yet to fade. Who doesn't own this album? Why not?

I own it now... great fucking album. Marc is right about the songs.... incredible

BUT...

a small correction to the 1 million sold comment. This from billboard.com news story from Sept 29th.

Quote:
Green Day scores its first No. 1 on The Billboard 200 this week with its first album in four years, "American Idiot." It's also the biggest opening sales week ever for the pop/punk act, as its fifth studio set for Reprise opens with 267,000 copies.

The group entered the chart at No. 4 with 2000's "Warning," which sold 156,000 copies in the first week and boasts a to-date total of 1 million. Collectively, the band has sold 14 million units since its 1989 debut for indie label Lookout.

yeah I had posted a link to sombody hosting a july 4 show from the figure 8 tour--one of the songs in that set was "struck down again", an early version of a song that appears on the new album as "strung out again"

Didn't Pearl Jam's Vs. set the record by selling something like 836,000 copies in America alone in its first week in release?
