Got to go with Billy here--Wiig was just about perfect. She's pretty but not gorgeous, so her difficulties with men and her jealousy of Rose Byrne were totally believable, not to mention her insecurity and tendency to withdraw from uncertain situations (until she was pushed to her limit). If I saw the movie again I might look at it differently, but it looked like a beautifully balanced performance to me (pun on the gate ride intended). |

Who has seen it here?
I reviewed it back here. I was impressed by the boy.
The kid was terrific.
I will be seeing Bridesmaids in a few hours. I'm also planning to see The Lincoln Lawyer, X-Men, and Kung Fu Panda (no 3D, I've been warned [Syd, I think]). I'm considering Hanna also.
Any comments on TLL and Hanna would be appreciated. |

Hanna is worth seeing but not by any means a great movie. The waste of the wonderful Eric Bana was the most egregious thing about it for me. It also lacks emotion. But it's well directed and reasonably exciting.
Going to see Limitless today or tomorrow and hoping to catch The Lincoln Lawyer this week as well. |

Wiig's performance is even better the second time. Knowing where the laughs are didn't make them any less explosive (I practically fell out of my seat several times), but the exquisite delicacy of some of her sad moments was more touching than on first viewing. And her chemistry with both Maya Rudolph and Chris O'Dowd was the mark of a great actress, not just a great comedian.
Watching Wiig on SNL, I have often remarked, "That woman is a genuine genius," and I'm glad to see I was right. |

Thanks Billy. I liked the preview of Hanna and the reviews of TLL were good so I'll probably catch them both. I really liked the first Kung Fu Panda and according to what I read the sequel is even better. |

More on Hanna--it features an absolutely terrible performance by the usually great Cate Blanchett. Her work in Hanna is awful in the way only a great actor can be awful. |

One of the things that attracted me was seeing Blanchett in the preview. Oh well, if it's well directed and has good action I'll probably have a good time. |

I was only very slightly amused by the first Hangover, and even from huge fans of the first I hear bad things about the sequel, so I know i won't be seeing it. |

What BW said about Hanna. As for TLL, I really liked it, have never liked Matt Maconahay (my spelling neurons are tired, Billy) more. Not a great movie, by any means, more on the level of a really good tv crime drama with a camera that just loves the gritty little corners of LA. Nice supps from Bill Macy, Leguizamo, and Tomei. |

I agree that her character was very sympathetic. And I thought there were alot of hilarious situations. An example of what bothered me was the scene where she is pretending to walk sober when her car is stopped by the cop. Did she have to do the theatrical walk for 5 minutes.......why not 2 1/2?
Midnight in Paris (MiP) was a thoroughly enjoyable spoof. The angst was nowhere to be seen and Owen Wilson is the best Woody stand-in i've seen yet. Alot of laughs.
and Gary I think you'll love it.........the references to the art scene in Paris were over-the-top clever (I used to think I'd do like you did after art school and go paint in Paris and get tb........got married and pregnant instead.)
The Lincoln Lawyer was very sturdy with plot and all the actors. Not a waste of time at all.
On the other hand 3 Backyards with Edie Falco was maddeningly bad tasting even with a good cast and great cinematography. I do not like a film that is filled with hints pecking it's surface and no view beneath. |

Hanna also has the right lead actress and some of the supporting performances (admittedly not Blanchett) are good. And very well directed action.
I hope more like her survive so we can have the sequel Hanna and Her Sisters. |

Well, I'm out of sync with the majority here. I didn't care much for Bridesmaids at all! The first 30-45 minutes were almost torture for me. A trip with silly and mostly obnoxious people is not my idea of a good time. Neither is gross humour, which I didn't find humourous. I had one laugh in the first half, when she was atop the gate and it started to open. I was tempted to leave but stuck it out. I'm no feminist but if I were I'd be pretty insulted by the way this group of women were portrayed. Happily one of the women turns out to be quite grounded (in a rather forceful way), in spite of her early grotesquery.
Finally the film picked up quite a bit compared to what went on before when the cop enters the picture. From then on the movie was tolerable and in some cases funny and pleasantly involving. I'd give the first part an F and the second part a C. |
