| The Tree Of Life is a two and a half hour art film that deserves to be seen by anyone who is interested in cinema as a purely visual medium. Don't expect drama or a compelling story. I was never bored, but never engaged. Overall, a disappointment from one of my favorite directors. At its best, it's ravishing eye candy. At it's worst, it's pretentious hippie bullshit. |

| Marc--Fascinating. A friend of mine, a very bright woman who nonetheless seems to like only the most mindless of rom-coms (she particularly enjoyed Jennifer Lopez in The Back-Up Plan) called me last night to tell me she had just seen one of the greatest films she'd ever seen--The Tree of Life. And now you, who would seem to be the perfect demographic for this movie, report that it's pretty much what I was afraid it would be. Now, of course, I have to see it. |

Billy, The Tree Of Life may be a cosmic chick flick. Mirgun wept during the film.
It's depiction of feminine energy as healing and the goddess principle as all knowing and wise while men are uncivilized brutes will appeal to men-haters everywhere. |

| Yes, I admit..I did have tears in my eyes at certain points in The Tree Of Life. I liked the relationship among the brothers and the actor, Hunter McCracken, who played the eldest son was really good. You can see all the emotions in his eyes. But I did think there was a lot of cosmic-love-hippie-dippy stuff going on especially towards the end. I think Malick just pasted the ending together..just to end it... if nothing else. |

| From what I've read--not always the best predictor--the relationship between Hunter McCracken and Brad Pitt is the only thing that I expect to find interesting in the whole film. |

I'm planning to see Win Win today. It has got good reviews and it's by the guy how made The Visitor and The Station Agent so I'm looking forward to it.
Who has seen it here? |

I woke up thinking about The Tree Of Life..so, it must have made an impact on me..more than I thought. |

Gary, "Win Win" is my Bonneville, alas -- it was at the art theater here, and I meant to see it, and then didn't.
Like seeing Marc and Mirgun doing point/counterpoint on a movie. The goddess v. brutish men polarity tends to irritate me when I see it in movies -- a new agey cliche. |

I've reviewed it here. It's a perfectly nice little film but nowhere in the class of either The Visitor or The Station Agent. It's also been seen by at least one other forumite, who liked it far better than I did but still said TSA and TV are superior. |

It is a very enjoyable movie. And very funny in parts. Not quite as good as The Station Agent or The Visitor, but in the same league. For an actor, McCarthy is a hell of a director.
One thing that is in all three of his movies is that the characters are all distinct and their relationships are very authentic as are the circumstances even when they are a little strange. He obviously knows how to direct actors because I don't remember any of his cast in all three films who were anything less than perfect. |
