Interestingly, that was the scene that sounded most like an Aaron Sorkin West Wing episode. I also liked it. But I liked the overall film a lot more than you did.
Me too. But in view of the almost universal acclaim given to the film, it was slightly disappointing. |

Cecile de France was definitely one of the best things about Hereafter -- but there weren't really any weak links, not even [SPOILER] the actress (from The Village, name eludes me) who disappears on Damon midway through the film. [END SPOILER] I can't say it's the best of the year, Billy, but I get the emotional impact of the film, the way it takes its time delivering it, and how this might lead you to put it on top.
And yes, the CGI was just stunning (NPI).

SPOILER ALERT FOR BART'S EYES ONLY (IN WHITE)
Bart--I really think you should make the part about Bryce Dallas Howard (the actress whose name eludes you--Ron Howard's daughter btw) as a spoiler alert. I for one thought he was gonna end up with her and hated the idea, so the way it ended was doubly delightful for me. |

Done. And, in the words of Bill the Cat, "ack!" Thanks for reminding me!
Didn't know BDH was Ron's daughter, but I see the resemblance now that you point it out. |

Thanks for the review Billy - I hope to see Hereafter after work today
But seriously - Unforgiven was just okay? That movie had so many great lines, scenes |

And won the Oscar, too, but I've never particularly liked it. And Million Dollar Baby? A pretty good flick but it beat out Sideways for the Oscar, and that, my friends, is "unforgiven." |

I didn't think so at the time, but Sideways is more deserving than Million Dollar Baby. (It wasn't until my third viewing of Sideways that I liked it even a little bit.)
Unforgiven is still fantastic.
I really want to see Hereafter now, whereas I previously had absolutely no interest due to its subject matter. |

Well, Million Dollar Baby is a really good movie. Crash, however, has no redeeming qualities. |

Didn't hate Million Dollar Baby, just was underwhelmed by it and thought it was disgusting that it won the Oscar over Sideways. Hate? That would be The English Patient, which wound up beating Fargo. Other low points: Gandhi beating Tootsie and E.T. and Forrest Gump beating Shawshank and Pulp Fiction. |

Unforgiven was a fantastic film on many levels, dialogue being one of them. |

As Shannon and Trish said (hi Shannon and Trish), Crash was one of the worst pics to win Best Picture (English Patient tops that list for me). |

I ended up liking Million Dollar Baby after finally seeing it after it won Best Picture.
Amen to the hate for The English Patient for beating Fargo, which was a complete upset. |

For dramatic reasons, The Social Network portrayed the young superrich Zuckerberg at the deposition as a friendless loner. The betrayed Saverin in his depicted as Z-'s last friend and we see him lamely attempting to pick up the 2nd year lawyer/jury selection expert. But he has had a longterm girlfriend from his sophomore year (the year depicted in the film via flashbacks).
She is Chinese-American and lives with him in palo Alto. Currently Zuckerberg is reported to take daily Mandarin lessons in preparation for an upcoming trip to China. Purpose unclear, but he does have a ridiculous amount of money and Facebook is blocked here, so he'll probably be hunting around for other ventures, talking to officials, possibly agreeing to hire their relatives or whatever it takes to free Facebook here. |
