I generally like Cera, except for Youth in Revolt, where he had a part that seemed like a Michael Cera part, but wasn't. I liked him in Juno, Superbad and Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist and avoided Year One. |

If you don't like Cera as a "One Trick Pony," what would have been your assessment of James Stewart around 1945? |

Not watched enough James Stewart movies to have an opinion. But if you think I want the Old Hollywood "pidgeon hole them in a role and keep replaying it over and over again" you would be mistaken. |

I would rather be Walter Pidgeon (mediocre good-looking actor) than Rebecca Pidgeon (horrible okay-looking actress) any day.
But thanks for picking up on Joe's misspelling of "pigeon." Comoaring a bird with Rebecca Pidgeon is an insult to the bird. |

Jeez, Joe, he's what -- 17? Give the guy some time to grow. Most "teenagers" in film have been played by people in their early 20s. |

I plan to see The Kids are Alreet.
And possibly Inception, especially if I can manage to see it in a theater.
And what else, folks?
(not interested in dopey action films, silly rom-coms or teenage male humor -- unless exceedingly well done)
I saw The Kids Are Alright at Sundance in January. Really liked it. A well made film, funny, some real world moments and great acting. |

We have several second run theaters here in Salt Lake. Most are $1.50 and $2, but Tuesdays, all shows are $1. They are nice for movies I don't care to pay $7.50 for (which is the current rate here in SLC for first run non-Friday or Sat night showings). |

I would agree with you on the tanker Year One, which I couldn't stand to watch more than a few minutes of.
Besides Superbad and Juno, what else has he been in?
My daughter (movielover) wants to see Scott Pilgrim. And for myself, the previews actually look pretty good. |

I saw a copy of Youth in Revolt at a redbox the other day, wondered if it was worth the buck. One-trick Cera or not, the trailer made it look sort of fun as a nutty take on the whole multiple personality thing. Anyone see this?
For some perverse reason, I rented 2012 instead, which....yeah, everyone warned me, including the neighbor's dog which whimpered and ran into some shrubbery when I came home. If only I had followed suit. But I was in the mood to mock something, so I watched all 4.6 hours of it or however long it was. I'm used to screenwriters getting most of the science wrong, but this was spectacularly poor, as if Wegener had developed his theory of plate tectonics while tripping on acid and eating really lumpy clam chowder. How they even lured actors like Platt and Cusack out of their trailers is a mystery. |

He starred in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist; which is fun, romantic escapist fare (if you're a stickler for realism, keep going) about a night in NYC. It's semi-aimed at teens, but I haven't been one for about 30 years and I still enjoyed it. Some good music in it, too. Oh, yeah - Cera was pretty good, playing the Michael Cera part.
And I will usually drop what I am doing to watch Arrested Development, which he was in, and which some day may or may not get the movie treatment.
We tried 2012 also, as it was the big Saturday night premiere flick on our crap movie package, but we didn't last very long. As the hubby noted re the length of the flick, sure it's the end of the world, but they give you plenty of time to prepare for it.
Finally, I will now chastise myself and retire, because all of the above belongs in Couch. |

I need to watch that movie. My daughter loved it.
I've seen Arrested Development a few times, but never on a regular basis. Didn't realize Cera was in it. |

I really enjoyed Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Cera and Kat Dennings had nice chemistry together. |

Chilly,
He was great on Arrested Development. He's still playing the same character. The trouble is, what made it work on there was that, as a young teen, to have such anxiety and a Woody Allen kind of delivery was really funny and unexpected. Plus, you watched a kid with so much comic control and thought he could do just about anything. The ablility of the actor balanced out the hangups of the character. The older he gets, the more pathetic the nerd character gets. The implication on Arrested Development was that he was smarter than just about everybody else; the longer he goes without the character advancing, the more he just seems to regress. And since he seems incapable of playing any other kind of character, I have to assume he's not half as talented as I thought he was. |

You make a valid point. Like a stereotyped character... Bob Denver never being able to play anyone else but Gilliagan type of career.
Guess I really do need to watch Arrested Development. |
