Neptune's just looking for an excuse to separate from Saturn. You know men - they see a ring and then run the other way.

Thanks, you've taken all the really good planet jokes and left me with Uranus! Too bad there's nothing funny about THAT name. [working on a Pluto/dwarf planet/In Bruges/Herve Villechaize angle here, but this is going to take time. ]

I think they changed the pronunciation from yur-anus to urinous. So we have a choice of visiting a planet that has the characteristics of your ass or a planet that is full of piss. Take your pick.

When I was in school, it was Ur-in-us. But the modern pronunciation is Ur-anus. I don't remember any rude jokes in class, but of course that was in the 1950s in South Carolina, and we were mostly polite straitlaced kids. (Of course there was always the guy who, when the class read "Julius Caesar" aloud, replied to "What sayeth the sooth sayer" with "Sooth sooth," but that was about as clownish as it got.)

It was Ur-anus when I was a kid. Hence the joke, "How is the Enterprise like a roll of toilet paper?"

It's headed for Uranus, to wipe out the cling-ons.

I, too, remember attempts to convert from the "Yer anus" to the "urine, us" -- a spectacular failure, IMO. But what can you expect from scientists who would name a planet after a Disney dog?

Thanks, everyone. I had one of the most amazing weekends of my life. Saturday my daughter got married, and the second time around is definitely an improvement. Her new husband is a great guy who I am delighted to welcome as my new son. His family is terrific. Then on Sunday I celebrated my 70th birthday. Suffice it to say that I feel about 25. Here's my new family.
