Lars and the Real Girl is one of the sweetest movies I've seen in a long time. And it just makes the case for Ryan Gosling being able to carry any film, any story. Tennessee Williams said he wrote about sensitive people who have torment in the world and that making a human connection is the most valuable experience one can have. Lars could have been one of his characters.........but surrounded by understanding friends.

Betsy, I really liked Lars and the Real Girl. A very weird premise and brought off beautifully. So many people panned it, mainly because of the story line. You and I at least, know good stuff when we see it. Very Happy

I saw it too and also liked it. It was as Betsy said, a sweet movie. But I doubt it would have worked at all had it not been for Ryan Gosling. He turned, what might have been camp, into a very touching story,

Ninja Assassin is a modern riff on the old Shaw Brother films but with the gore amped up. It's beautifully shot and the geysers of blood are some wild form of arterial art. This is Kill Bill without the irony.

Gary and Marj.......I'm glad you both liked it. And I agree. Without Ryan Gosling I shudder to think what horrors that story would have revealed.

Ryan Gosling's band Dead Man's Bones has released a phenomenal debut album. Gosling is a formidable singer/songwriter. Check it out on yuotube.

Joe - Did you know that George Washington Slept Here was based on a play of the same, which was based on Moss Hart and Kitty Carlisle Hart's attempt to adjust to country life?

Gary - I knew you already knew that.

You've probably seen my post in Current, that should have gone here. I've never seen the movie. I was in a production of the play.

I think it used to be difficult to come by around here. No TMC back when I did the play (we're talking '85). But also, I have trouble watching movies of shows I've been in. It's not even a question of thinking our production was better. It was a student production in an acting school. But still...

Finally watching the 1940 The Thief of Bagdad. This is why Technicolor was invented.
