I sometimes hate Cage's acting (Peggy Sue Got Married, Moonstruck, Deadfall), often worship it (Leaving Las Vegas, Vampire's Kiss, Guarding Tess, The Weather Man, Bad Lieutenant), but he's always a fascinating actor.
I happen to have the exact opposite reaction to Con Air (hate it) and The Rock (dig it). |

I'm assuming you're referring to Irreversible. You're right; it's Marc's type of movie. Almost everyone else should stay far, far away. |

I don't have a type of movie. I like all kinds of movies. |

Con Air is Hollywood at its die hard best, both oblivious and self-knowing at the same time - I believe that films can have split personalities. Similarly, The Rock is fun, but not as funny, and I have developed an aversion to Sean Connery. |

Billy I agree..Also, for me, I want to compare Swinton's performance to Jeff Bridges". They both played similar roles in a way, with excellence, feeling and soul, i thought. Isn't this what great acting suppose to be? |

Billy and Mirgun,
I wish there were something I could do about it. But I can't. It would throw off all of the voting for nominees and voting which has already begun. I'd love to do something to help, but I'm just a mere tabulator. I can't change the rules after they've been set. |

You're absolutely right. I know Tilda will be devastated, but that's show biz. |

Somehow, my response to Cage has done a complete 180. I used to think he was amazing, now I think he's awful. I see performances I used to love, and I wonder what was wrong with me that I appreciated them. |

Which performances are they? |

For me, Cage is best in his nutzoid mode - The Vampire's Kiss, The Bad Lieutenant, The Wicker Man, Deadfall, Peggy Sue Got Married. |

Well, I agree only part way on this. Cage in Leaving Las Vegas gives one of my all-time favorite film performances. The Bad Lieutenant is right up there. But Deadfall and Peggy Sue are dreadful.
Forgot to mention Matchstick Men, one of the best Cage outings and practically unknown. A hugely enjoyable movie. |
