I am really really surprised that The Hurt Locker is being released on dvd next week. I thought for sure that they would re-release it to theaters when the Academy Award nominations rolled in.

A lot of my students have served in Iraq. None of them have even heard of this movie, though I keep recommending it. I hope some of them finally see it.

They come from Iraq and then end up in your class? Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire. Laughing

I'll take a hirsute Baldwin any day.

The scene where Baldwin is lying naked on Streep's bed with her laptop computer strategically placed was the most hysterically funny scene in the movie. And knowing that Steve Martin can see everything on his laptop......and does......well I'd watch it again for that scene.

It was nysterically funny. But "the most hysterically funny scene in the movie"? Can't go there. It was the only hysterically funny scene in the movie. The other funny scenes were chucklesome, nothing more. This was very far from Some Like It Hot or Superbad or even When Harry Met Sally... in the genre of laff riot.

I agree, it was a mildly amusing film - not a laugh riot - but I did not expect that, so was not disappointed.

Oh, same here. And it was a charming little movie, but nothing more.

I pay 6,500 to see a matinée here.

Today my Japanese friend ( who saw Avatar last night in NY at the 11PM?? showing) told me that the biggest rage in Japan is the 3-D TV. And on the news tonight they had a story about it.. Yes, so, for about $7000 or so , you can watch it on TV. i just saw it but I want to go again .

Jordan's Furniture had these to sample last Fall - it's cool. But I'm wondering if I can handle so much 3-D. I really liked Avatar 0- but became very nauseous after a couple hours of the 3-D movement - I don't know maybe I had a bug (hopefully)

I rather liked the guy from "The Office" who played the prospective son-in-law.

I didn't get nauseous but I had to refocus my eyes a lot when the camera moved.

John Krasinski is a terrific young leading man.

Billy.........Putting it that way......Yes, I'll agree with you. The main thing about the movie that bothered me was SPOILERS that Meryl rejected Baldwin's character. So much of the movie was about the 2 of them and their kids that it seemed the natural direction to go in. I know there was the view that he was using her to get out of an unhappy marriage but I thought his feelings toward her were genuine.

Did anyone else notice that Meryl not only ran her own bakery but she had a major vegetable garden so tidily kept at home. (The boundless Martha Stewart energy of some people..........)

I already put Hurt Locker at the top of my Netflix queue. I'm happy about this. I wonder when Brothers will be out..........

I liked Brothers a LOT. However, it is a very difficult film. Massive kudos to Natalie and Jake.

I totally agree. This seemed a perversity on the part of writer/director Nancy Meyers, and possibly (I've been reading publicity) revenge on Charles Shyer, Meyers' former husband and writing partner.

I will say that It's Complcated is Meyers' best solo shot to date, topping Something's Gotta Give and dwarfing the horrendous What Women Want (my choice for worst romantic comedy ever).

My favorite Nancy Meyers work remains the undervalued Baby Boom, which she did with Shyer and which IMO contains Diane Keaton's career-best performance, combining the quirky-lovable bohemian of Annie Hall with the over-analytical semi-bee-yotch of Manhattan.

I'm glad you said that, Billy. Everyone I know who has seen the film loved it.......especially the pot scene.

I think I'll let Alec know about my availability........

What? Baldwin's character had dumped his aging wife for a sexy younger woman. Although Meryl's character clearly still had affection for him, I was glad she didn't yield to his overwhelming ego. (My mother, who divorced my father after enduring his affairs with a string of "other women," felt the same.) Steve Martin offered a new and more appealing way to go, and I liked the ending.
