Just thought everyone would like to know that the sacrifices were successful and the sun has ended its descent.

Al, so you're a junior. Your father is an impressive man and appears to be a fine lawyer. You must be a grave disappointment to him. Laughing

Now y'all know what a fan I am of The Hurt Locker and Jeremy Renner. But I'm beginning to get big-time annoyed at the preference being shown to Renner over the mind-blowing Michael Stuhlbarg in A Serious Man. Renner is a strong and charismatic screen presence and is a huge part of why The Hurt Locker is so formidably unforgettable. But Stuhlbarg's contribution is a far more actorly achievement in a more difficult role, and a more impressive showcase for his talent. The biggest slap in the face was that he wasn't even nominated for the Screen Actors Guild award. That's just stupid.

Jeff Bridges and Nicolas Cage are also better choices than Renner.

(Not to give away my three Blanche nominations or anything.)

Al (McBain)--Also, your last name is pronounced differently from the way I always pronounced it in my mind. I always rhymed it with "coins."

Al Jr., Senior is impressive. No bluster like you see in so many lawyers on TV. Reasoned and non-combative. You rarely see that on FOX. Smile So he is still living in Minneapolis.

I thought your last name rhymed with coins also.

Mask has vanished and I'm mystified as to where she could be. I'm getting worried, especially since she never goes outside, but if she snuck out, she might be afraid of the large black cat that hangs around the neighborhood, including my front porch. It'll be an awfully lonely Christmas if anything's happened to her.

I'm sitting in the airport in Charlotte, NC, waiting for my flight to West Palm Beach where we're spending time with my in-laws.

The past two months have been heavy and stressful for me, with a mountain of work that's left zero wiggle room for free time. I've peeked into Third Eye once or twice but really had no time for input. But I'm sure everyone here has been on their best behaviour.

Seriously, I just wanted to send out some good vibes and good Christmas wishes to the friends I genuinely miss.

Otherwise:

- A Serious Man: Interesting, deep & dark, but ultimately unsatisfying. The trials of Job without the madcap laughs.

- Up In The Air: A tailor-made role for Clooney if there ever was one. Really good, meaty film with as much humour as pathos. But award-worthy? Don't know if it reaches the level of greatness.

- Brothers: Solid drama but predictable story. Spidey is really good in this!

Lorne,

Times have been tough and stressful for a lot of us. But, friendship is what has gotten me thru the worst of it. I count you among those friends who were there when I needed you. Happy Holidays. Peace.

Marty,

you got to get full-fledged administration rights. We need more than Wade and Lorne. Wade is an occasional presence here. Lorne is a non-presence. You have my support, and I'm sure everyone else here, to be a full-fledged administrator.

I will get with Lorne to see about him granting full admin rights.

Damn, she does.

I've not been out to WWTDD.com for a while. Thanks for the link.

First, wesolych swiat, as my wife's people would say.

Second, as for Serious Man, I haven't laughed so much at a movie since Borat. Just the way Rabbi Nachtner relates the advice he gave Dr. Sussman had me on the floor. (Figuratively; they keep Camelview pretty clean but still.) But then I am a sucker for a great, well executed, shaggy dog.
