I am really looking forward to A Serious Man. Just reading the interviews with the St. Louis Park brothers and their comments has me convinced that this is a damn good movie. Now Billy, who is usually, though not always, a reliable source in pointing out excellence, has given it his 5 star rating.
The Coens were asked about the back-in-time East European Yiddish section at the beginning of the movie. They said something to the effect (or is it affect) of, We thought it would be something interesting to put there, but don't know if it has any link to the rest of the story.
Sort of reminds me of their claim that Fargo was a true story. They love to goof around. |

Thanks, billy - between my deep fear of thunderstorms, and the recent break-in attempt at home, I'm pretty sure my nerves would be gone - not shot - after seeing it. Greg Yataines, the exec producer/director+++ of House also watched it alone. His wife wouldn't even have him watch it at home (ah, the perks of being a Hollywood insider), or be in the house if/when he did see it. He tweeted that he was going to watch when she went out for a bit. She's also pregnant (overdue) - would probably have gone into labor ASAP. |

I hear it is good, but the trailer shows me nothing except a lot of fast cuts and well-dressed women and sets. This is in contrast to the trailer from Chicago, which excited me in the extreme. |

I sincerely hope what you've heard, Billy, is true.
In point of fact, the trailer reminds me a lot of Chicago, with it's fast cuts and edits. Not the trailer but the film itself. But I've seen it often enough to begin to like the song, "Be Italian." [I hope that's the correct title, if not I'll take my lumps.] |

I had the same response. |

| I'd love to go back and see the trailer for Chicago. Do you believe that was eight years ago? |

I just got to see Julie & Julia - the first first-run Hollywood film since the spring or so - and consider myself lucky for seeing that much (although I was visiting some friends).
I think I'm seeing the Campion on Sunday, although that's another visit with friends.
And I still haven't seen the silent Chicago %^< |

Wild Things is on my list as well as Invention of Lying but my only time to go is weekends and those are booked up these days...might just play hooky and go on a weekday.
The Nine trailer's fast cuts and grandeur definitely entice, billy...
Marj, Chicago is either 8 or 9 years ago - you can check on imdb and even find the trailers there, I believe.
Checked - it's 7 years ago, and they have no trailers. But a quick search on Google might turn one up. |

Don't scare me with reality like that. |

Looking at a trailer for Chicago vs the one I posted for Nine, there is more in the former as regards story and what to expect. As well, the actors are also identified. I've a feeling the latter is a teaser trailer and the movie-theater trailers will be more explicit and enticing.
However, the sights of the magnificent actresses headlining Nine is enough to excite me about this film. Loren, Dench, Cruz and Cotillard among them? That's a packed film already!
Made me think about trailers...that would make a cool discussion - how effective/revealing/reflective of their films they are/should be/can be...trailers are an interesting topic...after all, many people decide whether or not they will see a film, based solely on its trailer. |

No I saw it over the weekend. It had some very special moments... still making up my mind about it
considering the symbolism of "Carol" |
