I'd have to think hard or re-watch the film, but I'm not sure that Pitt didn't provide what Gilliam wanted. I thought the whole environmental extremist group was handled terribly and what had been an interesting film went off the rails.
I'm inclined to blame Gilliam much more than Pitt, but it seems to have been at least a collaborative sinking.
Btw, for anyone who liked the storyline, or sci-fi in general, the basics of the 12 Monkeys plot was lifted from a great short film by Chris Marker, La Jetee. Highly recommended. |

| I've always thought the director is mostly responsible for an actor's performance. In Pitt's case in 12 Monkeys, Gilliam could certainly have tempered Brad's performance. |

You're right, certainly. It was like Gilliam wanted Pitt's character to look like a looney who was going to acting school. |

Anybody have any word on Frears' latest Chéri (2009)???
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1179258/
Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathy Bates, even Anita Pallenberg.
The dvd just turned up, but the film doesn't sound like my type.
Also, did anybody see Grey Gardens, the recent "re-make" with Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore??? Sounds like good casting, but I'm still somehow skeptical.
I guess the film is based on the documentary. |

I don't find Brad Pitt believeable as an actor in anything.
Gromit.........Grey Gardens is great.......especially Drew Barrymore.....it fills in alot of the blanks of the documentary. Marj saw it, too.
Lorne (and Earl)......Thanks
Quote: huge, intense, gorgeous film
great words for Tetro. I was thinking "It's a transcendent experience where you are not watching a film......you are within it. |

I talked about it back in July here. |

So, here it is ~
The Secret Movie Project, Revealed.
(I'm in copy and paste mode right now, because I'm a little brain-dead from work.)
I’d like to invite you to my most recent movie project: Crossroads of Youth, a recently rediscovered Korean film which will show at this year’s New York Film Festival.
It's about a brother and sister from the countryside coming of age in The Big City — in this case, Seoul, Korea in the early 1930s. It's also a special event; virtually all films from this era were destroyed between World War II and the Korean War, which makes this the oldest existing Korean film. This copy was discovered in an attic in 2007, restored and rescored, and fit into a presentation with four musicians, two singers, and a pyonsa (narrator) — to present an evening at the movies, circa 1930s Seoul.
The screening will be at 11 am, Saturday, 3 October, 2009, at Alice Tully Hall. Family-friendly, and even includes a villain with a mustache!
Tickets are $20. They will go on sale to the general public starting Sunday, 13 September at 12 noon. There are also rush tickets and obstructed view tickets for $10 (but what fun is watching a pole for 90 minutes)?
Information on buying tickets are at the Film Society of Lincoln Center website, and are also outlined below. (if you're a member of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, it's in the packet that you should have just received.) More info on the film itself is at the Festival website, under Crossroads of Youth.
Hope youse guys can come!

Thanks, folks!
Now for a couple of stress-filled weeks (it turns out I'm co-hosting a baby shower in DC the following weekend)...

Oh, NCfOM will never end... although it might be October 5th; I have the feeling there will be a large party the evening of October 3rd. %^D
I'd sort of like to dedicate this to Nancy, although it's probably too late to get that in the program. |

Congratulations, Lady! It's all better than good!
But...what is this "NCfOM board" all about? Is there a Coen Bros. forum being planned that I don't know about? And if so, how did I miss it? |
