That seems a bit much, but maybe not. I will resee and reassess. Fargo is waaaaay their best IMO, with Raising Arizona and Miller's Crossing second and third. No Country for Old Men is probably fourth. |

I'm a pretty big Coen Bros fan, but have never understood the great appeal of Fargo. It seems fine enough, but nothing spectacular at all.
I've re-watched it twice,a t roughly 5 year intervals, to see if I was missing something, or would feel differently. And it always registers the same -- watchable enough, well made, but not that engrossing or deep.
I need to re-watch Miller's Crossing and Barton Fink, which I initially saw around the same time so that they tend to blend together in my mind.
Raising Arizona, Big Lebowski, O Brother, followed by Blood Simple and then quite possibly Burn After reading in my book of lists. Miler's Crossing and Fargo would probably be in that second tier as well.
I actively disliked The Ladykillers and No Country for Old Men. Didn't get anything out of The Hudsucker Proxy or The Man Who Wasn't There. And have, perhaps unfairly, avoided Intolerable Cruelty -- the only Coen Bros. film I haven't seen.

Gromit --Intolerable Cruelty is the Coen's take on 30's screwball comedy. It's not a great film but I love it. There are a number of scenes that are indeed laugh out loud funny.
I've found the more I watch Fargo, the more I enjoy it. And I didn't to begin with. Now I'm a real fan of the movie. |

Me and you Marj - re Intolerable Cruely. I knew it was not greatness material, but I really laughed hard at much of it. Especially the hilarious botched break in, so funny!!! |

The Cannes Festival jury agreed with you. As far as I recall, it won the Palme d'Or or something. I loathe Barton Fink. IMO it's the Coens' worst ever. (Haven't seen The Ladykillers, which I bet would take the prize away from BF.) |

One day, someone should go back and count the number of times "Coen Bros. Best Films" has been a topic here. I'm guessing double digits.
Fargo was the best movie of the 90's, and unless something I do not expect comes along, I've got No Country for Old Men as the best movie of the 00's. I lump those two with Blood Simple and Barton Fink (sorry Mr. Weeden), maybe Miller's Crossing as the top tier. Disliked Ladykillers, Raising Arizona and Hudsucker Proxy. The rest have their moments, except for Burn After Reading and Intolerable Cruelty, which I have not seen. |

Though I should note that I have not seen Raising Arizona since it came out. I should give it another chance some day, though I've noticed that I prefer Coen Bros movies where humor is a spice rather than the main course.
Oh, and the Serious Man trailer is a hoot. |

| Haven't seen Ladykillers or Hudsucker. I might see Hudsucker some day, but I don't think I'll ever see Ladykillers. I liked Raising Arizona. It is funny. |
