Good point.
One thing that might work in Pitt's favor is that the cast is so large and attention so spread out, there really isn't what would be considered a lead. But I still think what is essentially a comic turn has little chance for a nomination.
I love that they never explain the scar. It's just there. |

| I'm curious what people thought about the explosion of guns in the basement. I couldn't follow what happened at all, and afterwards it looked for a few seconds like everyone had just disappeared. Superb example of chaos or clumsy moviemaking? The rare element in the movie I was unsure of. |

People who are really good at something have mostly spent their lives working on that one thing. That's often what is required to be at the top of your field. |

| Also, Jen and I watched "Benjamin Button" a few months ago... what a boring movie about nothing it was! |

I found it moved so fast that I couldn't keep track of who had been shot. I assumed people had hit the floor, which is what I would have done under the circumstances. One time I would like to have had pause and rewind buttons in the movie theatre. |

Count me in on the IB love. My son and I fully enjoyed Inglourious Basterds. It was a marvelously tight, funny, and tense film. I think Waltz was hands down best of the bunch, but with the exception of Mike Myers (what?), there wasn't a bad perf to be seen. I think Pitt was good, but it wasn't a stretch for him if you ask me. Laurent's was very good, especially in the restaurant scene - very well done. Waltz was just great, what a fun role that must have been to play.
Minor Spoiler......can't seem to get the white to work....
As for the bar scene, one of the most enjoyable scenes in the film. Tight and so fucking tense. You were just certain that Stigliz was gonna crack. And yes it was confusing, but I imagine something like that would be very confusing and loud and chaotic - it felt right to me.
End Spoiler
I run hot and cold on QT, but this was a major hit for me. |

| Why? He wasn't funny, not just because Mike Meyers is these days inherantly unfunny, but because he wasn't given anything to do. Some perfunctory dialogue that anyone could have performed. Other than showing up and letting people say "There's Mike Meyers under the ugly make up effect" what was the point? |

| Putting together my schedule I realize I won't be able to see Inglourious Basterds until Friday morning. I'll just have to bite the bullet until then. |

I don't think Myers was supposed to be funny. He did exactly what he had to with the part which was to play it. |

| Then what was the point of his being there, as opposed to someone else? I kept thinking I was supposed to get more from his casting than I got. |

He might've been doing a friend involved with the production a favor. He might've wanted to try something different with little risk.
Hey - the Beatles (individually) did a lot of cameos in films without singing.
I dunno if it's so strange that he wasn't doing comedy - there are a lot of comedians who can do drama (think Dead Poets Society). I'm told that's easier than the other way around because it's harder to be a good comedian. |

| That is the excepted wisdom, but there are exceptions. William Shatner for one. He couldn't act worth a damn but in comic roles he has been excellent. Comedians in serious roles are often way too schmatzy. |
