I am so psyched for this and glad to hear it!
On the other hand, The Time Traveler's Wife was not good at all. Clunky script, really poor acting on Eric Bana's part, and just plain dumb. Thumbs down. |

| DISTRICT 9 is a terrific sci-fi B-movie in the spirit of films like The Terminator, Assault On Precinct 13, Road Warrior and Dawn Of The Dead. Highly recommended for fans of intelligent, speculative, action flicks with a smattering of splatter. |

bummer aboot TTTW -- I was kinda hoping a good weepy chickflick was in store
District 9? Looks hella cool but not sure I'm up for all the metaphorical storylines.
Inglorious Bastards? So wanna see, so afraid of the violence level -- I mean, scalping?
Taking Woodstock? Looks hella cool and I hope it DOES have metaphorical storylines. p.s. -- Emile Hirsch (kinda sad we all couldn't think of him, hey, @ least I knew he had an E)
Still yet to see -- Julie & Julia *sigh* |

This phrase is almost impossible to believe, but I shall wait and see. |

Billy - I am a big fan of EB. I have liked him in almost everything he has done, so I was quite surprised by how underwhelming his performance was. He just did not seem comfortable in the role at all and it fell flat. |

Quote: Todd Haynes slated to direct a TV movie remake of Mildred Pierce, with Kate Winslet in line for the title role.
That's great news..........but it will be very important to choose the right person to play the spoiled daughter, Velda.
PAPER HEART is a sweet, original movie. It starts out as a documentary with Charlyne Yi questioning people around the country about whether they believe in love. (She does not.) When Michael Cera comes on board as himself, he makes inroads on Charlyne's no-love premise. I of course remembered him in a similar role in Juno......but he is sweeter in this. The marionette shows illustrating important events in various couple's lives are very clever. Endearing film. |

It's Veda. But you're right. The casting of that role is just as important, if not more so, than Mildred. Ann Blyth, Oscar nomination notwithstanding, almost ruins the original movie with her wildly over-the-top performance. I sincerely hope that Haynes goes with a great actress as Veda and keeps her under control. I keep coming back to Anne Baxter as Eve in All About Eve, who I think was pretty terrible in the part and makes the central conflict much sillier than it should be--though the movie remains a great one. Bee-yotches are notoriously hard to play...and cast.
Audrey Hepburn as Eve Harrington. Now that would have been cinema heaven for me. (Chronologically impossible, of course, but I can dream, can't I?) |

Wade--Bana in Chopper gives what looks like a great performance. But the DVD has no subtitles and Bana's Aussie accent is so thick that I can scarcely understand a word. So I had to bail in the middle. Please, please, issue a DVD with subtitles
Munich, Funny People, Lucky You. Sublime one and all. |

The name Alden Ehrenreich is so fresh he doesn't even have a complete IMDB profile. But he will. Very soon. This kid is not only breathtakingly good in Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro, but he looks like a young Leonardo DiCaprio with a splash of Ray Liotta. He's a star waiting to happen.
I know I mentioned the film yesterday. It's a riff on Coppola's personal history of how deeply fame can fuck up a family, but don't let the small-sounding theme keep you from seeing the most gorgeously operatic film you're likely to see this year. |

Sounds good, but a lot like Alien Nation with sushi.
I'm anxious to see Ponyo, which is showing in two theatres in the Oklahoma City area. I bet it'll make it here while I'm recuperating. |

They're supposed to call me back with a date. Surgeries are done on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sounds like I'll be pretty mobile after the first couple of days. They even encourage me to take walks. Can't drive during recovery for sensible reasons. |
