Bets! You almost made me choke on my water. Oh, and btw, apparently I'm wrong!

I still want to get an OK from a doctor first. Just call me a nervous Nellie.

Betsy,

the Leonard Cohen Live In London dvd is worth owning. Its a well-done film documenting his performance in London during his current tour. I got it for $16 at Best Buy.

Good to know, Marc.........I have a friend who was asking whether the concert would be on a cd.........Well........you said dvd. She doesn't have a dvd player.......and I invited her to go to the concert but she felt she couldn't afford it. (How could you afford not to go?)

By the way......I discovered that Leonard made an appearance on Miami Vice as an interpol bad guy in Paris. In his 50's and speaking French.......I believe it aired in Feb., 1986. Season 2: Disc 5: French Twist.

of course I know that Leonard (his close friends call him Leonard) is performing here. It was big news as soon as the schedule was released. They were sold out right away.

And I assume you don't have tickets, Gary. But if you could get them.....you'd be in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Betsy,

I took my 82 year old Uncle Richard to the Cohen concert. He e-mailed the other day to thank me for taking him to "a once-in-a-lifetime experience". Those were his exact words.

The Leonard Cohen Live In London concert is available on DVD and cd for around the same price. Anyone who can't get tickets or can't afford tickets to see Leonard, I wholeheartedly encourage to buy the dvd. Its like seeing the concert in your living room without the 7000 swooning fans. The dvd is in stereo, not surroiund sound, so its not quiet as immersive as being at the actual concert. What I do like about the dvd is seeing Leonard and his band close up.

A 45 minute Leonard Cohen video that I think a lot of people on here would enjoy:

An overall point of interest about the video I linked (I saw it on TV back when Cohen had just released his first album) is that it all takes place before he even started his musical career.

I was just thinking after reading Syd and Terese's posts, that I wonder how long Susan Boyle would become a fan favorite on Facebook. I just went on and there she is!

Terese don't hate me but her "Cry Me a River" doesn't compare to Julie London's version. Of course that is my personal favorite.

The thing is, I don't think she's the great singer everyone is exploding over. I think it in part the situation with the Pop Idol judges and audience. And of course the emotional reaction as well.

Talk about a wake up call!!

Sure, but Julie London was a professional, and Susan Boyle is an amateur (although that will certainly change after 50,000,000+ hits on YouTube).

At the other extreme, you have this lady who was famous in the 1940s:

On the other hand, this woman was a professional singer in the 1960s. This one is really impressive.

She also did a version of "A Hard Day's Night" that I wouldn't dare inflict on you, and a version of "Downtown" that was a small hit.

with a particularly memorable whistling break at 1:50.

Preserving music like this is what YouTube was meant for.

I stand corrected. THIS is impressive, especially if you want to wake up all the dogs in the neighborhood. You try singing like this.

She was in on the joke by then. (I suspect she was from the beginning.)
