They hate me and they are cruel. I'm trying NOT to buy movies right now.

2 local video stores are having sales!

Mondo has just a few titles out, but I snagged "Zodiac" and "Black Snake Moan" for $5/ea.

The other store is having a massive sale till 12/31. Most of the DVD's are too expensive, but the video cassettes are a bargain at $2/ea. They have lots of boxes in the back and are putting out new selections every day. I found some great stuff (old classics & foreign films).

It's a better deal than renting or paying for satellite (for me).

It looks like this might carry over into Criterions, too... maybe time for that Brand Upon the Brain!.

Of course, the one item I'd like to get? Only available in Japan and ~$100. There be no Xmas sales at amazon.co.jp.

Question for Syd and Nancy and anyone else:

I'm involved in an Xmas DVD exchange. I have no idea about the tastes of the recipient...but I suspect that she may see lots of old movies on TV. I'm trying to decide between "The Amazing Mr. X" with Turhan Behar and Cathy O'Donnell and "Butterfield 8." I think she might like either one...but which one would be more rare? I'm trying to select something she might not have seen.

I don't have a lot of old DVD's I want to give away...and some may be too raunchy for her anyway.

Feedback is appreciated!

I haven't seen either, but Elizabeth Taylor won the Oscar for Butterfield 8, so it may be more likely she's seen that.

Liz Taylor won the OscarTM for her tracheotomy that year. Had nothing to do with the movie.

I'd go for Mr. X - Butterfield 8 is fairly easily found.
