So since Earth and, presumably, we who inhabit Earth will be around for a few more weeks, you should also check out Deep Discount DVD: Buy 1, Get 1 Free, even on boxed sets, from Warner, e.g. Barbara Stanwyck Collection, Bogie & Bacall: The Signature Collection, and the Thin Man Collection.

Stockin' up for Armageddon... because you can never have enough Good Stuff to Watch.

As the bombs fall, I'll begin my triple feature of Heaven's Gate, One From the Heart and Ishtar.

That would be an interesting game--instead of a desert island, what would you watch before the world ends? ("The Road Warrior" comes to mind--but I'd probably go for an Alan Bates fest.)

Question about a Reburbished LCD TV

I found a ViewSonic 42" LCD TV for $700, factory refurbished.

Should I or shouldn't I? Pros and cons? I can't seem to find any reviews about refurbished LCD TVs.

Thanks.

Hi Melody

Not sure if this is any help, but here goes:

Thanks, Terese, that was very helpful, especially the difference between refurbished and reconditioned TVs.

It's just scary spending that much money on something sight unseen.

On the other hand, with a 30-day return policy, there's not much to lose.

But then again, I should probably send that $700 to the IRS for self-employment taxes.

However, wouldn't it be nice to place a nice big TV on that nice new entertainment center/table thingy I just bought?

(I'll go on like this all night. Don't mind me.)

Dr. Strangelove, of course.

I wouldn't go for a second-hand or reconditioned plasma or LCD screen, but because everyone is moving to these type of TVs, you can get some very good bargains for second hand tube-type wide-screen TVs, though you need to know whether they are digital/HD etc. and if that's important to you.

HDTV's are incredibly cheap these days. And no, I wouldn't buy one second hand.

If the world was going to end tomorrow, I might watch a film that's going to be on TV tonight: Trouble in Paradise. Sheer genius.

Thanks for the heads-up, Tire--I want to see that. But it's opposite the Obama-McCain debate. No doubt that'll be replayed on the news, though...

I love the opera scene, where the soprano sings "I love him I love him I love him...," then the pages of the libretto turn (time passes) and she sings, "I hate him" - then the chorus, hushed: "She hates him."

Heck, I love the whole movie.

I don't think the tax man around here accepts that form of payment. Wink

OU is getting green. Well, greener, anyway.

NORMAN – Marking one of the largest renewable energy commitments ever by a public university in the United States, the University of Oklahoma Norman campus will purchase 100 percent of its electricity from wind power by 2013 with the signing today of a wind power agreement with Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company.
