I've actually seen all the films on the list but Metropolis. Can I fake it with the animated version?

I'm confused by that ad, which points to a longer version then says (despite being "restored) that the one you're getting is only 90 minutes. I expect it to be somewhat incomprehensible.

Has anyone ever tracked down the novel by Lang's Nazi-sympathizing wife? (He dumped her and fled Germany.) I think the movie is based on it, but it might be the other way around. Or even, like Love Story, been an entwined creation.

I've got all 3 on tap at Netflix. I have never seen The Day the Earth Stood Still or Metropolis but have seen all the others.

Great job with the list Marilyn - your moderator skills are already shining!

Forbidden Planet is not yet available on DVD. Perhaps in VHF...?

I'm a bit confused as well. I clicked on the "BUY" button at Hollywood Video's site and it took me to Amazon.com where it says the running time is 124 mins.

But yet it says "Restored Authorized Edition" 90 mins... 153 mins.... 124 mins... Shocked

Guess I'll find out when I got to pick it up this weekend.

Correction: Forbidden Planet is available on DVD from Greencine, but not from Netflix.

Thanks, Kate. I have not seen the 153-minute Metropolis, but I have seen the middle-range version (123 minutes?). It's really not a favorite of mine, but its influence is all over the genre.

Thanks, Marilyn... for re-energizing this place with a new forum. Extras go to Lorne and Marc for their work as well.

Marilyn--Great list! I'll be visiting Lower Boonies tomorrow to Hollywood Video. Very Happy

How do you post a link--yeah, I'm partially (mostly) computer illiterate.
There was a story on the CBS entertainment section about Blade Runner being the favorite sci/fi of scientists polled. Nice tie-in I thought. I saved the link in my favorites, but don;t know how to post...... Confused

When will we start discussion?

I don't suppose seeing Young Frankenstein again would be acceptable either.
