I liked most of these (still a couple I haven't seen yet), but I was disappointed by Ong Bak. The stunts were truly amazing, but the rest of the movie was pretty dreadful. |

Obscure movies on Jaman.com I reviewed and LOVED.
Una rosa di francia
obaba
Arimpara
Tenja
Mammo
Hong Kong Nocturne
Antareen
La tregua
Last best Sunday
Homa Ke nero
I wrote about Hong Kong Nocturne for a dance movie blogathon I did last spring. I put it in the context of where Hong Kong was at that period of time - balanced between the PRC and the West, rushing to Westernize, thus absorbing some of that Western culture - but there are some almost scary goofs in there (example: in the Marilyn Monroe-esque number, the male dancers almost drop Cheng Pei-Pei's legs).
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get too much into the Mandarin / Cantonese - Shaw Bros / Cathay stuff. |

Thanks. I've heard of that one, but haven't seen it. I'll have to watch for it. |

My favorites on this list are Tenja, Una rosa and obaba.
if you happen on the jaman site, you can download these films on a free trial and watch for a week.
the download happens in about 2 hours if you have a fast connection. |

He did show "Tears" but not with that Tag...I think he had second thoughts considering the demographics of Taos.
Too bad, that's a great title. Could have been an alternate title for Warhol's Lonesome Cowboys. |

I watched the trailer down at Syd's, and it does look interesting -- particularly the scene with the elephants. I noticed that it has the same actor who was in the original Ong Bak. If this one gets to a theater around here, I'll probably go see it. |

Hello Lady W!! Thought about you with all the snow.....
I would have to amend my list with the Vengeance trio: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance...Oldboy and the best Lady Vengeance in fact just add her.
and now that I've finally seen it I'm debating between Kinji Fukasaku's Graveyard of Honor or Takashi Miike's delivery of a few gallons of blood in his truly fateful remake of the same. |

I realize now that Max Ophuls' masterpiece "Lola Montes" has been restored by the Cinematheque Francaise to its full glory in Technicolor and Cinemascope, I should nominate it to our list of Top 100 Films.
And I'll include it in my personal Top Ten. |

I wonder how many of us would like a redo? I know that since we did this almost 18 months ago several newly seen movies would get strong consideration from me. Andrei Rubylov, Army of Shadows and No Country for Old Men are definitely now in my Top 50.
NOTE: This should not be read as either a suggestion that we redo these lists or - most definitely - my volunteering to count them up or anything like that. |

Well I did just show back up so I hope no one minds if I am a few months late. |
