McBain wrote: I will say again: Heath Ledger is amazing as The Joker. I will purchase the film on BluRay just so I can watch that performance as often as I like. He blows Jack Nicholson out of the water.
I hear this over and over, and I though what I saw in the trailer didn't confirm it, the unanimous praise leads me to believe it. Nicholson was a good Joker, but that character was more Jack Nicholson that Jack Napier (I always wondered if they gave the character that new name just so Nicholson could be referred to by onscreen characters as "Jack"). |

"The Last Mistress" is a terrible title. But "The Old Mistress" probably gives the impression that we're talking about some dried up old hag.
I agree that this film is one of the best of the year (be it 2007 or 2008). |

Earl--How does Ledger's villain compare with Javier Bardem's in No Country for Old Men (a character you might have been describing when you described Ledger's Joker)? |

When I was leaving the house, I heard a weird report on the BBC that Christian Bale was arrested in London - but they had to cut it off before giving any detail. Hopefully this is just stupid Hollywood-ish fodder, but does anyone know what's going on? |

Bale's mother and sister turned him in for assaulting them in the Dorchester Hotel in London, but so far no details. Sounds like he went on a drunken rampage, but who knows? |

The copy chief read the Bale story online and expressed shock, but when I said it's the Heath Ledger thing, she quickly agreed. Bale stars in one of the blockbusters of all time, and who gets all the publicity, the Oscar buzz, the TV clips? A dead co-star. Can't blame him for getting smashed, though violence is a bit much. |

Indians have long known that the British are naked social climbers that beat up and abandon their mothers and sisters in hotel rooms
This is proof. (HEavy metal music playing) |

Did you know that Jaguar is now an Indian marque? Of course, like all arrivistes of course, they paid Ford way over the odds for their piece industrial cachet. |

Quote: Now, though, since Jaguar was offloaded to the Indians, it is very obvious that the little Englanders have had enough. They could just about stomach Jag being American-owned. But with Mr Patel in the hot seat? “Better have another G and T, Maurice. I think I’m going to have a coronary.”
You must have noticed the result. In the past few months the whiff of the 19th hole has been lifted from the Jag range. No longer do you open the door to be knocked senseless by a nauseating cloud of Eau de Belfry.
The smell of Nick Faldo’s trousers has now settled on the Lexus range, and Jags, for the first time since the E-type was given a V12, are being bought by people you’d have round for dinner. And so, with a spring in our step and hope in our hearts, we arrive at the door of the Jaguar XKR. |

I'm not sure I get the joke, but I laughed anyway. Just like with British sitcoms. |
