Prejudging films: that remake (not adaptation) of Seven Samurai is definitely disturbing to me, sorry. I just wish the money were going to something original... instead of something already near-perfect. |

I found it hilarious myself...but it's one of those movies I'm afraid to discuss with people I don't know. They can get really upset about it.
The same thing happened with the second Austin Powers movie...which wasn't all that great - but I did happen to enjoy the series. When I mentioned that to a woman I knew casually, she really flipped out. |

Thanks, Lady, but I will probably succumb to it eventually, as soon as I think I can afford it. I support Milestone too, and I'd like to have a copy. And Syd's backyard is my backyard also, since we live in the same building. I'm not keen on being buried under hot lava. Maybe I can build it in the backyard of someone I don't like, who deserves a fiery death. |

| I go by the rule that if the trailer makes me want to flee the theater, I'm probably not going to like the movie. Thus, I've never seen Patch Adams, Thomas and the Magic Railroad, or Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium. I still hate the trailer for Across the Universe. |

I did see Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, despite the trailer, and it was godawful. Good thing I saw it really cheap (I think at the dollar house on 50 Cent Tuesday). |

| You'll notice that I was not particularly perturbed about inundating Syd with hot lava, volcanic ash, chunks of pumice, etc. I figure that's just the price he pays for living near me. Maybe I should warn his cat, though. |

I saw There's Something About Mary in a packed theatre on opening weekend and it was one of the best movie-going experiences of my life. The whole theatre was rocking with laughter-- my daughters and I were all crying from laughing so much. If I'd seen it three weeks later at a matinee with 20 people in the audience, I might not have laughed much at all.
That's the only way big dumb comedies should be seen: with lots of people on an opening weekend. |

Unfortunately, the cat doesn't trust me. When I cat-sit, now matter how much I assure her that Syd is coming back, she assumes that I have Done Him In. She also tends to go on a hunger strike, since I am clearly poisoning her food. I've done nothing to deserve this, except be the wrong person. |

Could you maybe enlarge a photo of Syd's face and cut eye-holes in it, thus making a Syd mask, and wear this when you go to feed the cat? Or would that just freak out the poor thing even more? (And it might be kinda fun just to find out.  ) |

I think spraying herself with catnip extract would do the trick.

Apparently Wong Kar Wai's The Lady From Shanghai project:
- has been kicking around as an idea for 3 or 4 years
- has been put off indefinitely
- was scheduled to star Nicole Kidman (who has dropped out)
- was not a re-make of the Orson Welles film (or maybe it was)
Basically all I really learned was that WKW keeps his projects tightly under wraps and frequently his projects fade and then re-surface.
But I wouldn't expect L from S to be his next project or, if it does happen, it might not be a re-make. |

See, I enjoyed TSAM so much that I even get annoyed when people refer to it as "dumb." I know what you mean, but the makers of that movie, a classic cinema farce IMO, are fiercely intelligent. One of the funniest movies ever made. And, yes, best seen in a theater with a packed house, but still very entertaining at home on the "small" 32-inch screen. |
