Actually, too bad Raul Julia is dead, period. Sigh.
And a sigh from me, also. |

Banderas is doing voiceover work these days: "Shrek" and the bee in a nasal spray commercial. |

It's now nationwide and given some of the reviews I've read, it should be the dollar theaters in the next few weeks.
It looks pretty good and it's one I want to see.
It had looked pretty good to me too, but just didn't deliver. Hope it does better for you. |

I saw the Raul Julia "Nine" on Broadway and wanted to see Banderas but didn't get around to it. Bardem should be interesting, and he'll certainly love the chance to show he can be something more appealing than what he won the Oscar for. |

What a fantastic cast they have lined up for it. Bardem is a plus for me -- I've never been that keen on Banderas. I've always found his blandness a bit annoying. He's often seen as a sex symbol, but is about as sexy as macaroni and cheese -- except in Take the Lead, where he actually made it to Spaghetti-O's. Though he can give a really good performance sometimes, usually in a comedy. |

I first saw Antonio Banderas in "The Mambo Kings" when I was working for the film class, and knew he had the charisma to be a major star. He's never quite hit Clooney level, but I find him pretty sexy. |

My favorite Banderas film performance was in one of his earlier ones, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!
I loved him in Nine on Broadway. He should have been cast in the movie--though I hope Bardem works out, and expect that he will. |

I always liked the El Mariachi series of movies, with Once Upon A Time In Mexico being my favorite. |

Was that the one with Johnny Depp? Now that I'm reminded of it, it's easy to see why he was a great Sweeney Todd. |

Yep, Johnny Depp was in that one. Everyone was great in that movie. |

Mo--That's true. I'm glad you recognized his voice. Still a lot of actors do. It would take too long to list them all. And voice over work never excludes an actor from film and stage work. So this doesn't explain the reason why he wasn't cast in Nine. For all we know it could have been some other conflict. We'll find out ... someday.

One of my favorite pastimes is id-ing actors' voices in commercials.
Recently I've heard Christine Lahti a lot for a skin care product.
In the case of Banderas, I think he lost out because he's not as young or as hot of a property as Bardem at the moment. |

MATADOR is the best and all time hottest Banderas/Almodovar collaboration! |

Marj: I'm intrigued.
Re voiceovers: It's fun sometimes on Sunday morning TV to try to identify some of the voices on the commercials for high-end items like financial plans and major corporations. Sean Connery is obviously the voice of UBS (hope they're paying him--they've had some financial problems of their own lately). I've heard David McCallum for a car company, though I can't remember which one. I hear Phillip Bosco fairly often--he's not quite well known enough for most people to identify, but his voice is familiar to everyone because of all the character roles he's played. (And I thought the bee's voice was an imitation of Banderas until I read some months ago that he was doing it himself.) |
