Or Show People. Marion Davies is a hoot as starstruck Peggy Pepper. Hearst shouldn't have kept her out of pratfall slapstick roles; she had a real knack for them.

Totally agree with that - BIG mistake on Hearst's part.

And I have a tape of Show People from TCM; I just have to make sure she still has a VCR.

So Keaton/Chaplin, Lloyd, and Marion D. A good comedy combo. That should work well. %^}

And although it's not a silent (still trying to decide what to suggest to a newbie), I'd recommend Trouble in Paradise. Someone who hasn't seen silents probably hasn't seen it either.

Maybe Mabel Normand in The Extra Girl. The scene where she doesn't know she's being followed by a lion is priceless. And Valentino's The Eagle is pretty good. That film's the first time I noticed that he could act, and had a flair for comedy too.

TiB is the very best Lubitsch, and that's saying something. Sexy, sly, sophisticated. Every time I see Miriam Hopkins speaking her machine-gun Spanish, I fall on the floor laughing.

All Lubitsch is good. I actually just gave another coworker my tapes of Monte Carlo, The Smiling Lieutenant, and One Hour With You (I just got the box set!).

One of my favorite Trouble in Paradise bits: they're at the opera, and the soprano sings at the top of her voice, "I LOOOOVE him..." The pages of the score flip to indicate some time's passed, then the chorus sings in a hushed voice, "She hates him." I've pulled out the DVD a couple of times just to find that spot. He's done the opera mocking in a couple other movies, and it's always good.

What really won me over was the wonderful performance by Kay Francis as their prospective victim. She stole the movie for me.
