Yeah, I enjoyed Across the Universe.
It reminded me of a Beatles-centric version of Hair.
Some hokeyness, but a pretty fun romp.
Loved Joe Cocker turning up for Come Together ... especially since he did the all-time best Beatles cover.
And I really liked the version of I Want To Hold Your Hand, which brought out the structure of a song I usually only semi-listen to, thinking of how quaint the words are. |

| I Want To hold Your Hand actully worked better as a sorrowful expression of longing than it did in the original up-tempo format. The film version uncovered previously unrealised depth. |

| I turned it off at about the midway point. Bono was a bit too much for me to handle and, to be honest, I was more than a little bored by then, anyway. |

OK, so for the Blanche for Best Performance b y an Inanimate Object we have these nominees:
The blue vacuum cleaner from Once
The air gun from No Country for Old Men
The length of chain from Black Snake Moan
(Hard to believe no one has nominated the leg gun from Grindhouse.)
Who's counting this category, BTW? I can't wait to see the poster Lorne comes up with for it. |

I should admit that I got majorly distracted and never managed to see the last maybe 30 minutes.
But I'm not the most patient of watchers of musicals.
The cheerleader who sings I Want To Hold Your Hand is played by TV Carpio. She also plays Prudence in the film, the girl who comes in through the bathroom window (another song Joe Cocker covered impressively back in the day).
Pretty girl with a nice voice.

Apparently her mother, Theresa Carpio, is a well-known singer. |

Good point. The leg gun had to double as a weapon and a means of physical support. Showed versatility. |

Actually, it was the same role - Prudence ran away from her suburban environment, that's her hitchhiking after the football game. |

An award like this deserves its own name: The Wilson, after the greatest performance ever given by an inanimate object. |

Max, the overweight kitty, played a cat named Jean-Luc (as in Godard) in 2 DAYS IN PARIS.
He's featured in the "extras." |
