| Straightforwardness is not a negative value. Unless you need the point shoved down your moronic throat. |

Excuse me Rod, I really don't come here to be insulted. You throw out a one line rave review and can't add a thing when someone asks you what you liked about the film. Thanks for the film discussion.
I also don't see straight-forwardness as a virtue necessarily. I was fairly neutral on the film.
Was wondering why it set your pants ablaze. |

Fuck you, Rod. That straightforward enough for you?
Re. Joan Fontaine: I'm reading a biography of Charles Addams right now and he dated Joan Fontaine for about 6 months in the early 60s. She "got her hooks into him," as they say, and he was relieved to be rid of her-- she had a towering ego and couldn't bear not to be the center of attention. (Imagine an actres behaving that way!) |

Quoting the offending post in case Rod tries to delete it. |

In the last couple of days Wade has called us "Sickening" and Rod accused Gromit's throat of being "Moronic". The magic tote board reads:
Pissy Tantrums - 1
Boorish Tempers - 1
Request for banning - 1
It's no wonder I keep coming back to this place.
Seriously, Wade, if you can't rein in that childish shit, at least apologize afterwards.
And equally seriously, Rod, if you're going to allow a harmless question to set off a rabid attack, go do some push-ups or run around the block before posting.
Most seriously, please clean up after your own mess. |

And let's not forget that Rod seconded Wade's pissy tantrum.

Hooray for Wade. |

Okay, I don't know what's going on here.
It just seems that folks should try to focus on film discussion. And it seems easier to ignore rather than insult. Basic civility doesn't seem too much to ask for -- though it is primary season.
Time to watch a film.
Picked up Louis Malle documentaries today.
Might have to go with God's Country.
Hey Yambu, I also snagged Season Two of Alfred Hitchcock Presents. Will have to let you know if it's as good as S1, when I can get to it. |

My son and I recently watched the two highest-grossing Russian films of the last few years, Nightwatch and Daywatch, from director Nurman Bektogoptormegf (can't recall exactly how to spell it). REALLY FUN! Great effects, compelling story-- but both films must be seen to appreciate the "story arc," as we film ponces say.
Like fantasy for grown-ups? Enjoy these films. |

Guess that the "kindler, gentler" 3rd Eye is a thing of the past.
Bring on the xanax.

Although High and Low is an excellent film, one of my favorites of the non-period Kurosawas. (Maybe The Bad Sleep Well beats it. Maybe not.) I've figured out that I watch films first for the stories, and this story unwinds beautifully. And the tension holds perfectly.
As well as the insults - well, that's what we do here. Not as bad as the NYT days, but I just don't see them going anywhere. |

| Bandwagon mentality does sicken me and it happens a LOT in here. To deny it is extraordinarily hypocritical. |

The hilarity of that response is that every time I offer a differing opinion (on Brokeback Mountain, say, but that's just one of many instances) you accuse me of going against the grain just to be contrary. You're okay with the bandwagon when it suits your purpose.
For the record, I like some of John Sayles, Matewan and The Return of the Secaucus Seven in particular. Has nothing to do with the prevailing Third Eye wind. Or what reviewers have said. I just saw them and liked them. |
