His name is never spoken in the movie, but in the "Blood Simple" script, M. Emmet Walsh's character's name appears as "Loren Visser".

You are just doing this to torture me, aren't you, Daffy?

I can just hear it it now, "Bartender, New Zealand All Blacks."

"Maybe three hundred years ago, but there are a lot of whites there now."

Mr. Green

Just be glad I don't root for the Simon Fraser University Clansmen.

I need to do some research to verify this, but my understanding is that the term All-Blacks was coined by an English journalist during a tour of England by an all-Maori rugby team. However, nobody is sure whether he was referring to the colour of their kit (all black), the players (not white) or their style of open running rugby (all backs (sic)).

It's official, Americans are short and fat.

After The War, both metaphoroically and physically, America was the tallest nation on earth. Alas how things have changed; America now ranks 24th in terms of height and first in terms of girth. The reason for the former, Mexicans. The reason for the latter, big portions.

The Dutch are the worlds tallest nation with the UK coming in at 17th.

The reason for the latter: fast food, television, nothing about our way of life being conducive to exercise, so unless you persue it, you turn to fat around age 28.

Obviously, you were joking about the former, but I wonder why we are are shorter nation today.

No Joe, I was serious. the average white American is as tall as he or she ever was,. What's happened since the war is that the rest of the world has got to eat better and there has been a large increase in the number of short-arse Mexicans living in the US which has brought the average height down. I think Congress should do something.

Not so obvious.
Factor out the Hispanics and Asians, the two largest immigrant groups of the past 20 years, and the numbers would likely be much closer. So if they want to use height as a proxy for wealth and health, might need to compare by race. Hispanics and Asians in the US are almost certainly taller and wealthier on average than those who didn't emigrate.

And there are some distinct healthy trends in US culture, including vegetarianism, a sports and fitness culture, the decline of smoking, etc. But in general Americans can be lumped together as sedate lard-asses, while those Dutch are just giant mofo's.

During travels, I've seen some giant Asians (Chinese & Mongolians between 6' to 7') plus some pretty tall Japanese. All are of the younger, better-nourished generation. Even a few Chinese females around 6 feet!

Re: being tall.
I just read an article in the business section (not sure which newspaper) about equating tallness with success. An example was a female exec. close to 6' who wears 3" heels to make a power statement. She claims it works.

Some men were quoted about how they use their booming "radio announcer" voices in business. Shorter men said they try to invade the space (i.e. standing very close to other men and using invasive gestures) to give the impression of overpowering taller people.

Everyone quoted in the article used these techniques _on purpose_ and said they work.
