Judging from last nite's GLOBES, it's another year of dismal best songs. |

You've got a chance to vote Gong Li for Best Actress as well (for Curse of the Golden Flower). |

Am beyond chagrined that I cannot volunteer to tabulate, but once more the Blanche run-up comes as the local dramatical critical spherical awardicals are underway. Am up to my cowlick in tabulations and in-fights and contacting moninees and booking presentatrices and performatrixes and begging corporations to sponsor and buy ads, ad nauseum. As ever, am thrilled to see Blanche's face afore us. This year's poster is already a winner. |

Oh, to hell with it. Give me Best Picture. Why aim small? |

In the event that the other categories are filled rapidly , I would not wish to stand in the way of Billy and the enjoyment he will glean from counting the nominations and votes of the best supporting actors not of the male sex. |

In case people have missed these movies, I have to make a fervent plea before our Blanche nominations that people try to catch The Last King of Scotland and Notes on a Scandal. Not for nothing are Forest Whitaker and Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett getting Oscar buzz. |

Notes on a Scandal is already planned... hopefully for this weekend (if I don't have to work all weekend, like the previous two).
As for Forest, his Golden Globe win should help escalate the buzz before the Oscars. I'll have to check to see if TLKoS is still playing here. NOTES.. just started this last weekend. |

I'm still not sure when these films will play N. New Mex.
PAN'S LABYRINTH is opening this Fri. at the Screen at the College of Sta. Fe. I suspect it will do well and be held over for several weeks.
However, the weather hasn't been cooperating - it hasn't the last 3 weekends. It hasn't been possible for me to get to SF to see CHILDREN OF MEN and other eagerly anticipated films.
No telling when your pics will open - and it's 2-1/2 hrs. to Albuquerque which is a tough drive in inclement weather. Albuquerque only has one venue for films of this type. Santa Fe has 3 (1 comm'l. and 2 non-profit cinematheques). |

On my list to see in the next 5 weeks for both Oscar and Blanches:
Babel
Little Children
Children of Men
Notes on a Scandal
The Queen
And I'm sure there's a few more, but those are a must watch. |

What if not enough people get to see NOTES and we have to put it off for next year's Blanches??
This would be unthinkable. I'm really looking forward to a knock down, dragout battle between Queen Helen and Dame Judi! |

I would recommend seeing Curse of the Golden Flower before nominating on Cinematography and Foreign Film. Like all of Zhang Yimou's films, it's breathtakingly beautiful. |
