Drove my wife to the airport Wednesday (Newark - an 8 hour drive each way, but they fly direct to Poland [LOT] and my wife does not like the whole connecting flight thing when she's flying alone) and when I came back yesterday I rented a few movies that I would not get an opportunity to watch with my wife. Put one of them, Adaptation, into the DVD player - and fell asleep with the FBI warning still on. Did I miss anything? |

Watched Brick last night. - very entertaining - once again impressed with Joseph Gordon-Levitt After seeing him also in Manic, Mysterious Skin - I'm convinced he'll be (if he wants it!) one of the biggest actors of his generation - he has an undeniable natural talent, presence - he'll have to overcome (a little) of the boyishness in his appearance (the Leo syndrome) - although I have to say his face is changing, aging a bit - which is good
Loved the pulpy language - it some how worked despite the actors ages.
I also thought Nora Zehetner was fabulous as Laura - soft spoken, subtle manipulative, enchanting - another great find - hope to see her more often in film
and the film has a great-nearly perfect ending |

Watched The Devil Wears Prada last night and pretty much agree with the consensus: Streep is excellent, but the film itself is beyond juvenile and Hathaway just isn't an appealing lead actress. I'll give it a 5/10 because Streep and, to a lesser extent, Tucci and Emily Blunt, are so damned good. If the film would've been solely about the magazine and left out the silly high school romance shit completely, it probably could've been been an 8. |

I'm glad to have been reminded of Adaptation. It's my favorite Chris Cooper performance. |

For which he won a well deserved Oscar. |

I appreciated the post, too Smoot, though I haven't seen the movie, either. |

I totally agree. I'd love to see your review actually in the Review section.

Whiskey -- This had me laughing out loud. I've done the same thing more often than I'm willing to admit! |

Made it past the FBI Warning last night. Excellent film - Charlie Kauffman has to be the most interesting screenwriter working these days. Shame about his brother, though.
I agree with the praise for Cooper's acting in it. He hits the right notes for a great comic performance without ever losing the charater to charicature. "That's how much fuck fish." Heh. |

Manhattan to Newark airport, about 20 minutes. I always liked those fares because the price was double because you had to deadhead back. It was a closer than JFK too. |

Stopping by for one of my hit-and-run FYIs: Old Boy (not Old Joy) is coming out on a dee-luxe Region 1 dvd box. Considering I just got the dee-luxe Sympathy for Lady Vengeance box, I don't know if I'll do this one as well (although I'm getting sucked into the dee-luxe box thing); but for anyone interested, here goes:

(sorry - the library's machines have a number of features blocked off, like image properties and view source, so no picture for you) |
